The 2014-2015 IGCC fellowship application period is now open. Doctoral students enrolled in the University of California, including J.D./Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., and M.D. with thesis are eligible to apply. 
 


David Jay Gambee Memorial Research Scholarship

Deadline: February 8, 2014

 

David Jay Gambee Memorial Research Scholarship will give preference to those proposals which involve the student as an active citizen in university governance, the local community, or national and international affairs. Also receiving preference are projects which lead to a heightened awareness of the relationship between the environment and society. Service in the community through volunteer activities or participation in programs related to the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation are encouraged. This is a one-year award up to $3,500.

 

Portuguese Studies Student Research/Language Study Awards
Institute of European Studies, UC Berkeley

Deadline: February 11, 2014

These awards support travel to Portugal and the Azores for research leading to a degree, and for attendance at language and language/culture institute summer programs.  These grants are open (on a competitive basis) to all full-time Berkeley students, graduate and undergraduate.

 



Graduate Fellowships for Dissertation Research

UC Pacific Rim Advanced Graduate Minigrant Fellowships

The University of California (UC) Pacific Rim Research Program (PRRP) offers fellowships for dissertation research. The funder deadline is in February, but each campus has an internal deadline in the fall for local campus review. Please check the full RFP for campus deadlines. In general, the Pacific Rim Research Program promotes the study of the Pacific Rim as a distinctive region. For the purposes of the program, the "Pacific Rim" encompasses all areas and nations that border the Pacific Ocean, including Southeast Asia and East Asia, Australia/New Zealand, the Pacific islands, and Pacific Latin America. Proposals may come from any discipline in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, public health, or some combination of these.

James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies Summer Internships

The Summer Undergraduate Internship in Nonproliferation Studies at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS), Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) is a paid internship. Interns, who should have completed their sophomore year of undergraduate studies, will work with CNS staff members on substantive issues for one of five Nonproliferation Programs.

 

CNS's research interests also cover Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Terrorism, regional nonproliferation issues including the Middle East and South Asia, and export controls. Knowledge of international security issues and command of a foreign language are desirable. Science majors are also encouraged to apply.

North Carolina Biotechnology Center Collaborative Funding Grant

The purpose of the grant is to assist a company in advancing its technology towards commercialization through a university-company partnership that enables access to expertise and resources. This grant is jointly sponsored by the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology, and Science at North Carolina State University and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and provides funding for a postdoctoral researcher or technician, designated as a Kenan Institute/North Carolina Biotechnology Center Fellow, in a university research laboratory under the guidance of a principal investigator.

California Council on Science and Technology Policy Fellows

The S&T Policy Fellowships, a unique one-year professional development opportunity, provides the selected fellows with hand-on-experience working with the California legislative process to incorporate science and technology into public policy. Eligible applicants will be PhD-level (or equivalent) scientists, engineers, economists and others with comparable level of training who have a sincere interest in California current events and the state legislative and political processes and a strong desire to learn how policy decisions are made.

Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Fellowship Program
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

Graduate students and researchers from a variety of fields who share a common interest in the nonlinear dynamics of rotating, stratified fluids share an intense ten-week research experience, and vigorous discussions of concepts that span different disciplines. Fellows pursue a research project under the supervision of the staff and present a lecture and a written report for a proceedings volume. Fellows accepted to participate in the GFD Program will receive a stipend $5,400 and an allowance for travel expenses within the United States. Fellows are expected to be in residence for the full ten weeks of the program.

Joseph L. Fisher Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships

Deadline: February 21, 2014

In honor of the late Joseph L. Fisher, President of Resources for the Future (RFF) from 1959-1974, RFF awards fellowships in support of doctoral dissertation research on issues related to the environment, natural resources or energy. RFF's primary research disciplines are economics and other social sciences. Proposals originating in these fields will have the greatest likelihood of success. Proposals from the physical or biological sciences must have an immediate and obvious link to environmental policy matters.

Resources for the Future

RFF is offering a paid internship for graduate students with a special interest in Chinese environmental issues to spend time at RFF in Washington, DC. The intern can expect to work with one or more RFF researchers on a variety of ongoing projects or assist in the development of entirely new areas of research and policy analysis. RFF seeks highly motivated candidates in their first or second year of graduate training in the social or natural sciences. Candidates should also have outstanding policy analysis and writing skills.
