Natchez Burning
Greg Iles
William Morrow
#1 New York Times bestselling author Greg Iles returns with his most eagerly anticipated novel yet and his first in five years--Natchez Burning--the first installment in an epic trilogy that interweaves crimes, lies, and secrets past and present in a mesmerizing thriller featuring Southern lawyer and former prosecutor Penn Cage. Growing up in the rural Southern hamlet of Natchez, Mississippi, Penn Cage learned everything he knows about honor and duty from his father, Tom Cage. But now the beloved family doctor and pillar of the community is accused of murdering Violet Turner, the beautiful nurse with whom he worked in the dark days of the early 1960s. A fighter who has always stood for justice, Penn is determined to save his father, even though Tom, stubbornly evoking doctor-patient privilege, refuses to speak up in his own defense. The quest for answers sends Penn deep into the past--into the heart of a conspiracy of greed and murder involving the Double Eagles, a vicious KKK crew headed by one of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the state. With the aid of a local friend and reporter privy to some of Natchez's oldest and deadliest secrets, Penn follows a bloody trail that stretches back forty years, to one undeniable fact: no one--black or white, young or old, brave or not--is ever truly safe. With everything on the line, including his own life, Penn must decide how far he will go to protect those he loves . . . and see justice done, once and for all.

The Pink Suit
Nicole Mary Kelby
Little, Brown and Company
A novel based on the true story behind Jacqueline Kennedy's iconic pink suit. On November 22, 1963, the First Lady accompanied her husband to Dallas, Texas dressed in a pink Chanel-style suit that was his favorite. Much of her wardrobe, including the pink suit, came from the New York boutique Chez Ninon where a young seamstress, an Irish immigrant named Kate, worked behind the scenes to meticulously craft the memorable outfits. While the two never met, Kate knew every tuck and pleat needed to create the illusion of the First Lady's perfection. And when the pink suit becomes infamous, Kate's already fragile world--divided between the excess and artistry of Chez Ninon and the traditional values of her insular neighborhood--threatens to rip apart. The Pink Suit is a fascinating look at politics, fashion, and some of the most glamorous women in history, seen through the eyes of a young woman caught in the midst of an American breed of upstairs/downstairs class drama.

A Delicate Truth
John le Carre
Penguin Books
A counter-terrorist operation, code-named Wildlife, is being mounted on the British crown colony of Gibraltar. Its purpose: to capture and abduct a high-value jihadist arms buyer. Its authors: an ambitious Foreign Office Minister, a private defense contractor who is also his bosom friend, and a shady American CIA operative of the evangelical far-right. So delicate is the operation that even the Minister's personal private secretary, Toby Bell, is not cleared for it. Three years later, a disgraced Special Forces Soldier delivers a message from the dead. Was Operation Wildlife the success it was cracked up to be-or a human tragedy that was ruthlessly covered up? Summoned by Sir Christopher "Kit" Probyn, retired British diplomat, to his decaying Cornish manor house, and closely observed by Kit's daughter, Emily, Toby must choose between his conscience and duty to his Service. If the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing, how can he keep silent?

Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty
Diane Keaton
Random House
Diane Keaton has spent a lifetime coloring outside the lines of the conventional notion of beauty. In Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty, she shares the wisdom she's accumulated through the years as a mother, daughter, actress, artist, and international style icon. This is a book only Diane Keaton could write-a smart and funny chronicle of the ups and downs of living and working in a world obsessed with beauty. In her one-of-a-kind voice, Keaton offers up a message of empowerment for anyone who's ever dreamed of kicking back against the "should"s and "supposed to"s that undermine our pursuit of beauty in all its forms. From a mortifying encounter with a makeup artist who tells her she needs to get her eyes fixed to an awkward excursion to Victoria's Secret with her teenage daughter, Keaton shares funny and not-so-funny moments from her life in and out of the public eye. For Diane Keaton, being beautiful starts with being true to who you are, and in this book she also offers self-knowing commentary on the bold personal choices she's made through the years: the wide-brimmed hats, outrageous shoes, and all-weather turtlenecks that have made her an inspiration to anyone who cherishes truly individual style-and catnip to paparazzi worldwide. She recounts her experiences with the many men in her life-including Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, and Sam Shepard-shows how our ideals of beauty change as we age, and explains why a life well lived may be the most beautiful thing of all.

Sensation: The New Science of Physical Intelligence
Thalma Lobel
Atria Books
"Color and temperature, darkness and light, rough and smooth textures--all these sensations influence your inner world and your actions with unexpected power. In "Sensation," one of the world's leading experts on human behavior, Dr. Thalma Lobel, shares an exciting, completely new view of physical intelligence, or embodied cognition. She reveals that physical experiences unconsciously affect your everyday decisions and choices--with profound implications for your everyday life. Before you read the rest of this description, find a comfy place to sit and settle in with a mug of something warm. If you can, wrap yourself in a soft jacket, shawl, or blanket. Once you're warm and cozy, you'll warm to new ideas more quickly. Now listen: This book holds the power to change your life. That sounds like a lofty claim, but if this book were ten pounds heavier, you might regard that claim as more believable. (Job seekers, take note: A resume printed on thin paper is taken less seriously than ones on thick paper.) If this copy were written TOP TO BOTTOM instead of SIDE TO SIDE you'd be more likely to believe it. You might also pay more attention if this were printed on red paper--although that color would seriously undermine your reading comprehension. (Test takers, beware: Exposure to the color red significantly and consistently reduces performance. But a whiff of cinnamon may undo the damage.) The more you know about how your physical environment influences your mind's interpretation of the world around you, the better you are able to navigate tricky waters and get to where you want to go. People with a sweet tooth seem kinder than others. Clean smells promote moral behavior, but people are more likely to cheat on a test right after having taken a shower. Hard surfaces make us inflexible. "Sensation" empowers you to recognize these outside forces and hidden biases, and even put them to use in your own life, in order to improve every facet of your personal and professional lives. The outside world shapes our perceptions and beliefs at every moment; "Sensation" reveals these hidden effects and lets you take control of your place in the world.

Boom Snot Twitty
Doreen Cronin, Renata Liwska
Viking Juvenile
True natures are revealed when three dissimilar friends spend a tumultuous summer day together. Boom, a bear cub, likes to move. Twitty, a robin, prefers to stay close to home and create with yarn, while Snot, a small snail, enjoys anticipating what's going to happen. Cloudy skies and a strong wind suddenly shatter their peaceful morning. As Boom leaps out of a tree to escape the wind, Twitty secures her nest filled with yarn and buttons and Snot surfs off on a leaf with a wide-eyed WHEE! Boom and Twitty attempt to run or hide from the elements, but tiny, quiet Snot embraces each change and thoroughly enjoys the day. Endearing detailed illustrations show individual stitches in Twitty's yarn creations, Boom's fuzzy coat, Snot's red-bowed antennae and freckles, as well as a few ever-present books. This charming episode affirms that friends with different personalities can enjoy being together while still doing their own things
