New at the Marianist Mission
Now available in Spanish, prayer and healing cards and resources to help your spiritual development of those you know that are part of the Hispanic community.

Dear MLNNA Community,

"It's a small world after all... It's a small world after all..." We all know the ride from Disneyland, and the never-ending song that accompanies it.  When I think back over the years I've been involved with the Marianists, it continues to amaze me how many people know each other!  I have been blessed to live in Dayton, Hawaii, and now St. Louis, so my Marianist connections and relationships grow broader with each passing year.  Like so many of you, I travel around and visit with other members of our Marianist family, enjoying hospitality, culture, and prayer together.  I truly treasure these relationships, and am constantly thanking God for the closeness of our Marianist family, for the constant reminders of what a small world this Marianist family can be.

Then again, maybe it's not such a small world after all.  The connections and relationships we all make across cities, universities, states, and countries is remarkable.  But when I talk to other Lay Marianists, I often hear the same things over and over.  We want to be more connected.  We want to get to know each other better. We want to learn more about the different projects and ministries happening.  We want to see how other communities gather and spend time.  We want to see how they find the balance between a virtual community and physically-present community.  We just want to be more connected.

And so where does that leave us?  Stuck in between the fantastic Catholic world of both/and.  We are both part of a small world and desiring greater connections.  We are both filled and hungry for more.  We are both building community and feeling on our own.  We are both an intimately close family and (as Matt Dunn mentioned last month) part of something much bigger than ourselves.  We are both praying and doing works of justice. We are constantly dancing between the two, and it is one of the most challenging and celebratory things about our faith.

Next month, we are inviting all of you to join us in this beautiful contrast.  During the week of October 4-11, 2015, as a group, or as an individual, we invite you to spend some time in both prayer and intentional community-building and service.  To be both that close knit community and to reach out and invite others in.  In response to your requests for more connection, we ask that you take a photo of your group/yourself and share it with the rest of our larger community by posting it on your various social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) with the hashtag #MarianistsInAction.  At the end of the week, we invite you to join in the World Day of Marianist Prayer to be spiritually connected with the International Marianist Family.  See below for more information.

This exciting event will give us the opportunity both to learn about the wonderfully diverse things happening in different parts of the country and enjoy the "small world" connection of our Marianist Family.

Peace,
Mallory
MLNNA Update
It's with regret that we announce that Terri Maze has stepped down as Head of Office of Education, effective August 13, 2015. Since Terri joined the leadership team in March, she helped organize a number of projects including the eNews and the search for Assembly co-Chairs. With warm regards we thank Terri for her service to the MLNNA members and leadership team.

We will begin the search for a new Head of Office of Education after we complete our search for 2017 Assembly Co-Chairs.
Volunteer Opportunity!
MLNNA will be sending out our annual report and annual membership contribution drive in the next few months, and we need your help!  If you are interested in making personal connections, meeting other Lay Marianists, and serving MLNNA, please contact Mallory Green temporalities@mlnna.org to sign up for our phone-a-thon event.
2017 Assembly
The Assembly takes a lot of time and effort to do a good job and we want to get the team together and the process kicked off by the end of this year.  There is much to do to get the 2017 Assembly planned: recruiting additional volunteers, picking a location, building a program, etc.

We're looking for co-Chairs and leaders of the offices of Spirituality, Education, and Temporalities.  And committee members who are willing to assist them!

If you are interested in being a part of the 2017 Assembly Committee, please contact Mike Wasno
JOINJOIN IN!  Be a Part of #MarianistsInAction
MLNNA is launching an initiative to encourage members of the Marianist Family (that means you!) to work together to build community and provide service to others in the Marianist spirit.

#MarianistsInAction, runs Oct. 4 - 11 and takes place everywhere and anywhere an
individual or group decides to participate. MLNNA encourages you to gather with friends, pray the Magnificat and engage in service. Take a photo and post it on social media with the hashtag #MarianistsInAction. The week culminates with the Marianist World Day of Prayer on Oct. 11.

For Gabrielle Bibeau and Caitlin Cipolla-McCulloch as they begin their first novitiate year with the Marianist Sisters.

For Pope Francis as he travels to the United States, may his visit  remind us that "Love is our Mission" and strengthen us as we continue to build the Kingdom of God.

For the success of the World Meeting of Families, we pray the special prayer of supplication to the Holy Family:
God and Father of us all,
in Jesus, your Son and our Savior,
you have made us
your sons and daughters
in the family of the Church.
May your grace and love
help our families
in every part of the world
be united to one another
in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family,
with the aid of your Holy Spirit,
guide all families, especially those most troubled,
to be homes of communion and prayer
and to always seek your truth and live in your love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!

MSJC's - Marianist Call to Advance Justice
Time is Running Out - Schedule your MCAJ Workshop before Dec 2015!

Is your Marianist lay community or group interested in a stimulating, challenging formation opportunity that will plunge you more deeply into our call as Lay Marianists?   If so, then consider scheduling a Marianist Call to Advance Justice workshop - an initiative of the Marianist Family aimed at helping each community to respond more fully to our call to justice.   The workshop takes three hours and will help your community to:

  • Affirm and reflect on what you are currently doing to respond to social injustice;
  • Determine what you want to do in the future to develop your community's commitment to building a more just and peaceful world.

For more information, contact Jim Vogt.

Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation
Our Marianist Charism reminds us that we are continuously being formed by Mary to be Christ to the world.  The Virtual Learning Center provides opportunities for us to deepen our understanding of our Marianist Life and our Catholic Faith (and much more).

The VLC will be offering the following Marianist Study programs developed by NACMS.  You may want to register as an individual to meet and learn along with others in the Marianist Family.  Or, if your community would like to take a course as a group, contact Patti Gehred at NACMS to learn about reserving a course for your group.

The next cycle begins October 25. For details about available courses and more, go here.
What's New at NACMS
Join us for the 3rd Annual Autumn Assembly: "The Art of Being Human in a Digital Culture" presented by Sister Angela Ann Zukowski, MHSH, D. Min. on Fri., Sep 25th, 7 PM at the University of Dayton River Campus, 1700 Patterson Rd. Rm. 2265

The new Marianist Center construction at the Mount St. John property is coming along. We look forward to and continue to pray for this new space for archives, library, publications, on-line learning and so much more. Prayers to all involved in this project.
