 New Year's Resolutions
What is your New Year's Resolution? By now, some of you, like me, have already forgotten it. (Maybe next year.)
I heard a wonderful homily about making a resolution to be like Mary and be God-bearers to those around us. This idea isn't new to Marianist, but it reminded me that our resolution is not an easily forgotten promise, but a life-long commitment to live an intentional, Christ-centered life. Blessed Chaminade's vision is for Marianist Lay Communities to bring Christ to the world by being witnesses to Jesus by being different, at times, from the world around us.
Like Mary, we can be mindful of others and walk in their shoes. Imagine the compassion Mary felt at the wedding in Cana as she saw the pain in the faces of the bride and groom and remembered her own humble wedding. When we see others in need, we can help to ease their suffering.
Like Mary, we can stand up for those who are oppressed. Mary stood at the foot of the cross, suffering with her son and actively demonstrating against the injustice that was done to him. We can stand with the homeless, the immigrant, the impoverished and give them a voice in our communities and governments.
Like Mary, we can seek Right Relationship with God and others. Imagine the scene in the upper room after the crucifixion. Mary held the community together by forgiving and consoling the Disciples after what they must of thought was their darkest day. We build and strengthen communities by being humble, and seeking and giving forgiveness.
Mary's resolution at the Annunciation was not for a year, it was an eternal commitment to give Jesus to the world.
May God continue to bless us as we continue Mary's Mission to bring Jesus to the world with passion, energy, and intentionality 365 days every year.

The Year of Consecrated Life
Please remember to pray for and support our Marianist Sisters, Brothers, and Priests this year.
Let's start by congratulating Bob Jones, Daniel K'Osino, Javier Sanz, and Gautier Som, who were ordained Deacons on January 10 in Rome.
Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life
O God, throughout the ages you have called women and men to pursue lives of perfect charity through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for these courageous witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daughters who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. 2014, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
