MLNNA Leadership

We Give Thanks For Community!

Dear Friends,

As we approach Thanksgiving, I find myself reflecting on the many blessings God has brought into my life. Near the top of this list is the Marianist Family. This community has been a source of joy, inspiration, and true family for me over the years, as I'm sure it has for all of you.  I am thrilled to take on the adventure and challenge of serving my Family more directly in a leadership position with the Office of Temporalities. Another blessing to count and offer prayers of thanks!

One of the most remarkable things about this Family is the way we nurture and care for one another. In an age of individualism, we are able to hold true to the ideals and values of the early Christian communities, to which Chaminade often referred when describing his view of the ideal community.

"Now the whole group of those who believed was of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all." (Acts 4:32-33) A community united, supporting one another, sharing resources, and receiving the Lord's grace in abundance.

With the holidays drawing near, we are presented with so many opportunities to practice living this ideal community and to give of ourselves. Gifts of time: volunteering in soup kitchens as winter winds begin to blow, or being present to family and friends for epic game nights and fellowship. Gifts of talent: crafting one-of-a-kind gifts for a special someone, or preparing Food-Network-worthy feasts. Gifts of treasure: participating in parish food drives, or dropping some change in the Salvation Army buckets outside of the Black Friday specials.  After giving of ourselves, just as promised in the Acts of the Apostles, we receive grace through the Incarnation on Christmas day.

In this season of family and friends, we ask that you remember our Marianist Family and the call to community... to be of one heart and one soul... to share all things in common...to receive great grace.  Soon, you'll receive our annual appeal letter.  We hope and pray that you will consider us as one of the many recipients of your gifts this holiday season.

In thanksgiving for your faith and friendship,

International Lay Leadership

Marianist Lay Communities collectively constitute a lay association of the faithful, officially recognized by the Vatican. Leadership is elected by delegates representing Marianist laity from around the globe. Elections took place in Peru in January 2014. At the time this newsletter was being created, the elected leadership of the International Organization of Marianist Lay Communities was meeting in Rome to discuss challenges raised by the delegates in Peru. Some of these include questions around identity and formation, much like in MLNNA's strategic plan. As a community of communities, we will all be working together for the greater good of the Marianist Family.

The international leadership team includes Susan Vogt, Francisca Jere, Isabel Duarte, Beatrice LeBlanc, and Felix Arqueros Perez. Fr. Pablo Rambaud, SM (in red) serves as an assessor (advisor) to the team.
Building Community Across the Miles

You might be wondering what exactly the MLNNA leadership team does. With the roll out of a strategic plan and recent elections, new officers serving the lay branch of the Marianist Family in the United States have been meeting via conference calls to discuss the strategic plan, prioritize goals and strategies, and recruit volunteers to serve as treasurer, secretary, newsletter editor, MLFI liaison, MSJC liaison and more. Watch future newsletters to learn the progress of the strategic plan and how you can get more involved!

Additionally, leadership of the three branches of the Marianist Family in the United States come together twice a year to share news related to their branch and get updates from ministries that serve the Marianist Family. This meeting of the Marianist Family Council of North America recently took place, November 5, in San Antonio, TX. The MFCNA heard reports from the Marianist Social Justice Collaborative and the Marianist Lay Formation Initiative, both of which receive financial support from all three branches. If you didn't know, your contribution to MLNNA not only supports MLNNA but also supports these other important ministries as line items in MLNNA's budget.

As travel costs can be prohibitive, many meetings are face to face electronically but not in person. Sometimes they are by phone conference. In the meantime, much communication happens behind the scenes and across several time zones!

Some dates to be mindful of...

November 21 - Presentation of Mary

November 27 - Thanksgiving

December 8 - Feast of the Immaculate Conception

December 12 - Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Your Support Matters
