Building a Community of Communities

Delegate Assembly Postponed

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As you are aware, the Marianist Lay Network of North America (MLNNA) hosts a Continental Assembly approximately every three years. This year, our approach has been to design a "Delegate" Assembly, whereby we would involve and encourage participation by lay Marianists attending on behalf of their communities. The Assembly was scheduled to take place outside of Philadelphia, in July.

Regretfully, a number of unforeseen circumstances have arisen that make it prudent for the leadership team to postpone the Assembly to 2014.

As a "community of communities," MLNNA's signature event is the assembly, gathering Marianist laity from across the continent and beyond. As a Delegate Assembly, our expectation is that representatives of communities from all over North America would attend and articulate the interests, ideas, and concerns of their communities. A benefit of postponing this year's Assembly is that your leadership team will have additional time to solicit important input from communities, and other key stakeholders, and provide meaningful information to delegates, about the purpose and goals of the Assembly. This in turn will provide communities the opportunity to realize and discuss their hopes and dreams for the future of the "community of communities" being the Marianist laity in North America.

On behalf of the entire MLNNA leadership team, and all involved in the planning of the Assembly, we appreciate your patience and understanding, and call for your partnership. We look forward to an exceptional gathering in 2014, and we hope you share our enthusiasm for the potential that can come from strengthening our love of the Marianist charism, and gathering together to share our personal and communal experiences of living that charism, today and into the future.

Looking to 2014, we will continue to be in contact with you asking for input, sharing important details, thoughts and discussion points for your consideration.

May the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

Faithfully Yours in Christ,

Matt Dunn, Caitlin Jacob, Kathleen Henriksen, Rudy Reyes, Jr.,

The New Evangelization
Hope for the World

The New Evangelization challenges us to embrace our faith, to share that faith, and to make a difference in the world. In 2011, Isabella Moyer, President of the International Organization of Marianist Lay Communities wrote a circular about how Marianist laity can live the New Evangelization. With the election of Pope Francis, we also see renewed hope and inspiration for the church.

Check out this video about people who are excited about their faith and how we are called to reach people in new ways:

Community Resources available through NACMS
Do Whatever He Tells You

In 1997 and in 1999, MLNNA created a collection of insights to share with others. This collection is known as (Just) Do Whatever He Tells You: A Practical Guide to Building Lay Christian Communities, and (Just) Do Whatever He Tells You...Together: A Practical Guide to Collaboration among Communities in the Marianist Family. These collections consist of case studies about community life, community dynamics, Marianist history, personal experiences, prayer ideas, community discussion ideas, and more. Northeast Marianist Family Council
Entering its third year
Northeast Family Council
On February 12, 2011, the first meeting of the Northeast Marianist Family Council took place at the Marianist Center in Philadelphia.  Its fifth meeting was held on February 9, 2013. In October 2012 it met and featured a pilot workshop of MSJC entitled "The Marianist Call to Advance Justice" which will be available to Marianist communities in the coming months. The Council is composed of representatives of lay and religious communities from Maryland, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. It meets biannually and also gathers at least once between meetings for retreat days, service projects, and picnics. Its Mission Statement promotes collaboration among the Marianist branches, fosters growth of the Marianist Family, supports communities, shares resources, engages in prayer for persons and works of the Marianist Family, and fosters works of mercy and justice.

In 2011, members participated in a NACMS virtual learning course on the Three Offices. Members then decided to organize them selves within the Offices of Temporalities, Spirituality, and Education. The Heads of each Office plus the Chairperson form the Council's Leadership Team. The Offices engage in focus areas, such as, sustaining communities, developing an on-line activities calendar, and offering prayer resources/events.

Members are excited about their continued development and look forward to collaborating with the broader Marianist Family as we journey forward in bearing Jesus, Son of Mary, to our world.
