Greetings Art Lovers:

Ars Mid-Hudson is planning out our year, and along with more networking events in the North and Eastern Dutchess area, we are making plans for quarterly get togethers across Ulster and Orange County. If you are part of an organization, business or group that has the space, please be in touch. We look forward to meeting all of our faithful readers in your neighborhood.

As we move through this unseasonably warm winter, we can take advantage of a multitude of arts and culture events. Check out our online calendar, which is free and open to all postings about arts and culture.

Reverse Migration & Other Stories: Works by Lori Van Houten opening reception

The exhibit title is inspired by the practice, in some species of small birds, of migrating in the wrong direction. Caused by a genetic anomaly, they navigate, for example, north rather than south in the autumn. The exhibit features installations of photographs, originally photographed with a Polaroid camera, printed on cotton paper, and variously coated in encaustic medium.

Buster Keaton's "The General"

One of Buster Keaton's most beloved silent films, Keaton plays Johnny Gray a hapless train engineer with two loves-one a beautiful girl, and the other, a locomotive named "The General". When both fall into the hands of the enemy, Johnny sets out to rescue both. What follows is mixup after mixup, some hilarious and all ingeniously displaying Keaton's acrobatic grace and inventive style, at a level as good as the best work ever done on in the silent film medium. The General will be accompanied by the piano virtuosity of Marta Waterman.
