Greetings Art Lovers:

January 15 is Martin Luther King's birthday - let's remember his lifetime of work with a personal act of kindness and generosity.

Several months ago Arts Mid-Hudson accepted the charge from Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro to lead a search for the first Dutchess County Poet Laureate. Arts Mid-Hudson assembled a panel of poetry professionals and community members to review the nominations received through a public call and have come to a unanimous decision, with an announcement next week. Mark your calendar to hear the State of Dutchess County and the Dutchess County Poet Laureate's poetry on January 27, 5:30 p.m. at the Bardavon.

All of us at Arts Mid-Hudson are looking forward to an exciting schedule of exhibits and workshops for 2016! The gallery at Arts Mid-Hudson Asian Influence exhibit opened on Saturday to a lovely crowd - stop by and experience artworks by artists from the Hudson River valley, such as Amy Cheng, SUNY New Paltz professor of art, Xuewu Zheng, Poughkeepsie-based artist, Leigh Williams, Dutchess Community College professor, and international artists hailing from New York City, Korea, and China. Next up and opening February 13 is the Special Winter Olympics exhibit, with participant artists from Anderson Center for Autism, Abilities First, Taconic Resources and Dutchess ARC.

April is National Poetry month and through the NY Council for the Humanities we will host scholar Erika Haygood Gault presenting on poetry. In the gallery, Recycle/Reconfigure exhibit will feature artworks that have been created from recyclable items and Dutchess Handmade returns during the last week of April for Mother's Day. Check our webpage out for workshops that include Zentangle, and coming soon, paper-cutting, embroidery and more to get all of us through the coming winter months.

What's to do this weekend and beyond? There are still tickets for Friday night for Half Moon Theatre's Cabaret Evening at the Culinary with Olivia Lucy Phillip, who is making her Broadway debut next month. Tickets include a delectable three-course meal paired with the show.

In honor of Black History Month, the Mid-Hudson Heritage Center hosts an exhibit of interviews of African-American and Afro-Caribbean seniors in our community about their lives. Recorded contributions from Karen Michel's Stories to Go project will be featured, and a screening of a short documentary chronicling the story of Madeline, a Poughkeepsie artist. Monday, January 18: 4:30-6:00 p.m.

Save the Date:
January 24-25: Auditions for Memphis at County Players
January 25: Arts Mid-Hudson Annual Meeting
February 6: Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra Brits on Broadway at the Culinary
February 13: Special Winter Olympics opening at Arts Mid-Hudson Gallery

Best wishes for an art-filled week!
