Greetings Art Lovers:

The Thanksgiving Holiday is our favorite, giving us time to reflect and give thanks. All of us at Arts Mid-Hudson are grateful for your engagement, for reading this newsletter, sending comments, suggestions, and getting out and enjoying all that our Hudson River region has to offer. One of the ways you can show your gratefulness for our strong artisan community is to shop and collect locally. Did you know that for every dollar you spend locally, it doubles itself in our community?

Dutchess Handmade is Arts Mid-Hudson's answer to shopping locally - we've invited over 60 of the finest local artisans to show their wares in the pop-up shop. The shop is open Friday after Thanksgiving (9:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.), and Shop Small Saturday, noon-5:00 p.m. Also open this weekend, the Hudson Valley Artisan Marketplace at Locust Grove, Friday-Sunday. Shop small and see a big impact!

If your Thanksgiving guests stay for the weekend, there is much to see and do.
On Saturday in Kingston, Sinterklaas departs from the historic Kingston Waterfront after a full day of open houses, musical performances, workshops creating beautiful crowns and branches, and a Children's Maritime Parade down Broadway, with stars and puppets galore. Kingston sends off Sinterklaas and his white horse on a tugboat across the river to his destination there. After his send off, there will a Sinterklaas Soiree, Tree Lighting Ceremony, and plenty of specials at all of the local restaurants.

Saturday night the Mark Gruber Gallery in New Paltz opens the 39th Annual Holiday Show - see the work of Carolyn Edlund and other Hudson Valley painters: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Would you like to see art through the collector's eye? Wired Gallery presents the exhibit "Collectors Curate" opening with a reception on Saturday, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

The movies are always a great way to spend some holiday time - head over to The Moviehouse in Millerton and indulge yourself in award winning cinema, and don't forget to check out the art exhibit by Jeffrey L. Neumann: "Vanishing America." And don't forget Upstate Films in Rhinebeck and Woodstock, also featuring indie films for film aficionados.

Celebrate and give thanks for an abundance of beauty on Saturday night with The Kingston Poetry Brothel: Second Helpings at BSP starting at 7:30 p.m.

And speaking of poetry, this is the final weekend to nominate for the first Dutchess County Poet Laureate - nominate a poet, or if you are a poet, nominate yourself - deadline November 30.

Call for community volunteers: Arts Mid-Hudson is strongly committed to creating a diverse and welcoming environment for Grant Review Panels. In a continuing effort to reflect the communities we serve, we invite you to recommend panelists to serve in reviewing grants across Dutchess, Orange and Ulster Counties. We welcome community members of diverse artistic, administrative and cultural backgrounds. Our next panel meetings will be in late January. Individuals may also nominate themselves. For more info, email: [email protected].

An exhibition of lithography curated by Ron Netsky. Woodstock may be known around the world for a different kind of rock, but for over a century the small Catskill town has been a center of activity for lithography - printing art works from slabs of stone. A rock and roller is all artists like Bolton Brown, George Bellows, Rosella Hartman and many others needed to create some of the finest lithographs produced anywhere.
