Greetings Art Lovers:
We are gratified with the amount of arts and cultural events across our region - whether it is live theatre, art exhibits, dance, or folk arts, we are indeed rich. As you may know, part of our funding is from New York State Council on the Arts and local government, Dutchess and Ulster Counties. Next time you see your elected officials, thank them for having vision to fund the arts. Former President Lyndon Johnson said,
"Art is a nation's most precious heritage. For it is in our works of art that we reveal to ourselves and to others the inner vision which guides us as a nation. And where there is no vision, the people perish."
What's up for the next few days? This Friday, "Season's Bounty" opens with a reception at the Hyde Park Artist's Collective - 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Friday is also opening night for County Player's production Of Mice and Men, in cooperation with the The Poughkeepsie Library District Big Read, through November 21st.
Saturday is the festive opening of Dutchess Handmade, a pop-up shop filled with local artists' works - join us and get first pick - 5:00 p.m. at the Arts Mid-Hudson gallery. Beginning November 9, we will offer Member Monday, where members receive 10% discount on their purchases.
For dance enthusiasts Saturday night at Kaatsbaan, Project 44 performs at 7:30 p.m. a dance performance that has been compared to an intuitive flow of shapes, patterns and rhythms that are blended with musicality and emotion.
Live Arts Bard presents Neil Gaiman in conversation with Armistead Maupin Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Sosnoff Theater. Tickets: $25; $5 for Bard community with ID.
Upcoming for November 14: India Children's Day - an Arts Mid-Hudson Folk Arts event Mini-Maker Faire at Poughkeepsie Day School
