Greetings Art Lovers:
Halloween reminds us of the scary things in life - what could be scarier than a world without the arts? Instead of candy, how about joining as a member, gift a membership for a friend, or make a gift in memory of a special person. Now that is what we call a real treat!
Live theater this weekend includes special student pricing at Sweeney Todd (costumes encouraged) and a family friendly version of Sleepy Hollow, both at the CENTER for Performing Arts In Rhinebeck. Other timely live performance includes Trinity Player's presentation of The Rocky Horror Show at Cunneen-Hackett theatre this weekend - don't dream it, be it.
Step over to the Mid-Hudson Heritage Center on Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m. to view Dia de los Muertos artwork made by 150 students from Dutchess Day School, Poughkeepsie High School, and Dutchess Community College, accompanied by a free workshop for kids ages 6 - 12 to make their own Dia de los Muertos work. And there is an open studio tour in Orange County that coincides with Newburgh Last Saturdays - lots of action at Space Create and Ann Street Gallery - check out the map!
Sunday we turn the clock back one hour, what better way to turn back time than to head over to the Rosendale Theatre for Sunday Silents and see the 1923 release of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, with live piano accompaniment by Marta Waterman. $7/$5. 3pm.
Let's save the date: November 7: Dutchess Handmade pop-up shop opens November 7: Of Mice and Men opens at County Players at the Falls November 14: Mini-Maker Faire at Poughkeepsie Day School
For arts organizations and artists in Dutchess, Ulster and Orange Counties, see our webpage for grant opportunities - the deadline is coming up soon - November 17th.
Best wishes for an art-filled week!
