Greetings Art Lovers:

The call for nominations for the first Dutchess County Poet Laureate is open! At the Arts Awards last week, Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinero announced a new partnership with Arts Mid-Hudson to establish a Dutchess County Poet Laureate Program. Nominate a poet, or if you are a poet, nominate yourself - deadline November 30.

In Poughkeepsie it's Queen City Arts Weekend with many events including Cocoon Theatre's Beckett Festival, an artist's talk at Barrett Arts Center, and a multi-media presentation at Mid-Hudson Heritage Center, Stories To Go, by sound artist, Karen Michel.

The ArtEast Open Studio Tour opens this weekend - take a road trip at the peak of leaf season and follow the yellow signs to over 40 artists' studios and creative workspaces. Studios open 11:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m. - see webpage for details.

Also this weekend the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival returns to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds October 17 - 18! If you are a knitter, collector of fine craft, or interested in the process, here is the Mid-Hudson's must attend event.

For dance aficionados, head to Kaatsbaan International Dance Center for Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance Company performing at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.

If you haven't made it out to see Meeting Past at the Akin Library in Pawling, this Sunday is a closing reception where you can savor contemporary art alongside of the collections in this historic building, 1:00-4:00 p.m. Read the Poughkeepsie Journal article here on the exhibit.

Let's save the date:
