Greetings Art Lovers:

A huge thank you to all who came out and enjoyed the Dutchess Dragon Boat Races and Festival last weekend - it was fabulous! We have some wonderful photos that will soon post as a photo album with contributions by Irving Solero and Carolyn Edlund so far - if you took a great photo, consider sharing!

The first weekend of August finds us enjoying the rich offerings across the region. For instance, its First Saturday in Kingston, as well as the opening for the Kingston Sculpture Biennial, organized by Arts Society of Kingston, and right around the corner check out the new show at KMOCA, "Chromascape," both openings 5-8 p.m.

If you have kids, summer means looking for fun and reasonably priced activities. Here are two that caught our eye:

Kids can unleash their inner monster at the Creature Creations workshop for kids - July 31 and August 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Art Centro. This workshop is part of the Ceramics Workshop Series sponsored by Arts Mid-Hudson. The suggested fee for this workshop is $50 which includes all materials and firing fees, but they will accept sliding scale payments - pay what you can afford, but you have to preregister.

La Guelaguetza is not just for kids, but they will love it! Spend the day on Sunday at Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie at this festive, free, and family-friendly celebration of Mexican dance and culture. Check out the Poughkeepsie Journal article on this wonderful event.

If you are in the mood for something more introspective, you could head out to the woods and hear the Escher String Quartet performing with profound musical insight and rare tonal beauty - Sunday, 4:00-6:00 p.m. presented by Maverick Concerts, Woodstock.

Best wishes for an art-filled week!
