Greetings!                              Joellyn Headshot 2009

Happy New Year! Hope you had a wonderful holiday season and that 2013 is off to a good start for you. My husband and I spent our holidays in Chicago, visiting with our children, extended family and grandchildren, especially to celebrate our grandson Maverick's first birthday. Even though we encountered some snow on our drive back through Ohio and Pennsylvania, we returned safely in Worcester on New Years Day.

On the labor market front, I'm delighted to report that the
US added 161,000 jobs in November and 155,000 jobs in December. November's count was revised up from its original figure of 146,000. What a great way to start the New Year!

I'm excited to announce that my "Wake up to a Job You Love© Home Study System" is tentatively scheduled for a beta-launch on March 1. Just to recap: this system is an online, self-study, self-paced version of the core content, materials, and tools I use with my private clients, to help them build a solid, laser-focused plan to land a job they love, which is fun, fulfilling and financially rewarding. This system is perfect for anyone who is unemployed and struggling to land...or unhappy with their current job or employer and doesn't know which way to turn.

Initially, I had planned to limit enrollment in the "Wake up to a Job You Love© Home Study System" to only 10 people; however, I've decided to open it up to anyone in career transition who feels they will benefit from it-- no application required. Please scroll down for details and introductory "Charter Member" pricing.

Since last July, I've been writing an article series, introducing the core content and philosophy of the "Wake Up to a Job You Love© Home Study System." The first article emphasized the importance of knowing your top transferable skill sets before planning your career transition; and the second one helped you back these skills with "Reality Stories" that highlight how you've produced impressive results for your employers. The third showed how recognizing your hard-wired preferences can point to possible career paths; and the fourth explained how understanding your personality type can factor into making wise career choices.

The content in these four articles are all part of the "The Six Dimensions of Career Clarity" -- the topic of this month's article --which is a "six groups of questions" strategy I use with clients, to help them get crystal-clear about their most ideal career position--before starting their actual job search. When you reach clarity in these six dimensions, you'll bring more enthusiasm, focus and traction to your career transition campaign, which will ultimately lead to: landing a right-fit job you love much faster; becoming happier in the job you already have; or even being able to transfer to a position better suited for your needs inside your current employer. (Side note: Module 3 of the "Wake Up to a Job You Love© Home Study System" will include an expanded questions list, supplemental worksheets, and an "Ideal Job Template" to sketch out your ideal career position.)

Is your job search stuck and your career stalled? Start the New Year with a private Career Action Planning (C.A.P.) Session with me. We'll get to the root of your career problem and get you on the road to landing your dream job in record time! Read the testimonial of one client who landed soon after his C.A.P. Session; and the quick story about another client I highlighted in the October issue, who had a C.A.P. Session last July and landed in September.

Enjoy this issue and I look forward to connecting soon!

P.S. A great big "Welcome" to my new subscribers!

I've been planning a "beta launch" of this self-study system of my career coaching program. It's based on the core content and tools I use with my private clients, to help them build a solid, laser-focused plan to land a job they love which is fun, fulfilling and financially rewarding. This system is perfect for you... whether you're unemployed and struggling to land...or unhappy with your current job or employer and you don't know which way to turn.

A tentative launch date is scheduled for March 1 and this program will be priced at an introductory "Charter Member" rate of $147.00.

Originally, I wanted to limit this program to only 10 participants; however, I've decided to make it available to as many people who feel they will benefit from it; no application required. I am planning to offer some special bonuses for the first 10 people who sign up.

Depending on how many people enroll, I may host monthly Q & A group calls and create a private Facebook group for participants to post questions and interact with each other.

There will be a special sales page created for this program and you'll be notified when it's ready.  Until then, please download the updated description of the modules here:

If you have any questions, please email me joellyn@career-success-coach.com; and I will be personally reaching out to those of you who have already expressed interest.

SIXDThe Six Dimensions of Career Clarity Stories

3D Pie Chart

You're finally ready to make that long-awaited job or career change. When starting your campaign, you're probably saying, "I want to see what's out there" or "I'll look at any job that will pay a decent salary."

Leaving yourself open to many kinds of jobs might get you employed quickly; but in the wise words of baseball player Yogi Berra, "If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else." You might accept a job impulsively, only to quit within a few weeks because it wasn't what you thought it would be, or get fired for poor performance.

By simply answering the following "what, how, where, which, why and who" questions, you can discover and sketch out what your ideal career position might look like before embarking on your job search activities.  I call these groups of questions "The Six Dimensions of Career Clarity."

1) What strengths, skills, and talents can you capitalize on?

2) How do your natural preferences and personality type factor into choosing your ideal work?

3) Where do you want to work in terms of industries and target companies?

  • Do you prefer a large firm with opportunities for growth up the corporate ladder?
  • Would you rather be in a smaller company with steady yet satisfying responsibilities?
  • Have you made a list of 50 target companies?

4) Which workplace environment/culture will you thrive in?

  • One that is conservative, socially-conscious, employee-focused or bottom-line-oriented?
  • One with a clear vision and mission or "goes with the flow"?
  • One that is controlled and predictable? Or unstructured and variable?

5) Why do you want to work, according to your mission and purpose?

  • What lights you up at the end of the day?
  • What brings you deep satisfaction?
  • What legacy do you want to leave behind?

 6) Who are you evolving into?

  • How do others see you?
  • Who have you always wanted to be "when you grow up"?
  • What career keeps calling to you and won't let up?

When you take the time to answer these questions, your job search will be more focused, both offline and online.

Why? Because this exercise will help you:

  • Determine which types of work and positions are the best fit for you;
  • Be attuned to these opportunities when they show up in your world;
  • Communicate to your network how they can help you.

According to the Law of Attraction principles, you'll draw into your life whatever you give your attention, energy and focus. You'll find that clarity works like magic in bringing you closer to landing your dream job!

  • question mark jpegDo you work hard on your job search but seem to get nowhere fast?
  • Are you burned out with your job, but don't know what other work might satisfy you?
  • Do you have trouble understanding how your transferable skills can be used in other professions?
  • Do you apply for jobs online, only to get "thanks but no thanks" responses?
  • Does it seem like your network can't help you with your job search the way you'd like?
  • Do you get interviews--- but no offers?

Is it time to take a risk -- a giant step forward -- to end the pain once and for all? You may surprised: the problem might not be what you think and simpler to overcome than you thought possible.

Regardless of the issues you face or what you may be frustrated or confused about, I can provide the clarity, creative thinking, objectivity, and perspective you need to get your career and job search moving in the right direction.

Let's get started with a Career Action Planning (C.A.P.) Session to help you figure out what's working, what needs attention, and what the next steps are to land the job of your dreams!

LOUSkeptical? Here's what one client said about his experience. He got hired five months after his C.A.P. Session!

"I worked with Joellyn and went through her Career Action Planning session after months and months spinning my wheels trying to land a position. Her session and follow ups were a great jump start for me in redesigning my resume. She helped me focus on what my strengths were and was encouraging and genuine. She's extremely personable and is a great listener. I'd recommend her to anyone who is struggling finding their next steps in their career path."  -- Louis Miano, Sr. Software Developer
