President's Message
Eagle Rock City Hall
Today, my office is full of ghosts, hobgoblins, and cartoon characters. Your office is probably pretty similar.  Tomorrow, I am sure I won't be able to throw a rock without hitting a sexy cop or nurse, or Maleficent, or Ant-Man. Of course, everyone is gearing up for Halloween and the festivities that go with it. The holiday is so full of merriment and revelry that we sometimes forget that it has its roots in celebrating the dead, ghosts, and the past.

Next week, TERA is going to hold its own celebration of the past, as well as the present and the future. We have the great fortune to be able to offer a special presentation by Professor Jan Lin of Occidental College entitled "Eagle Rock:  Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" on Thursday, November 5, 2015, 7:00 p.m., at Eagle Rock City Hall, 2035 Colorado Blvd.

Through this talk we may be able to revisit some of Eagle Rock's "ghosts" from the past, such as the Shopping Bag building, auto parts stores and pharmacies, and affordable housing. We will also have an opportunity to look at the sprits of the present such as boutique stores and dining, bike lanes, homelessness, and the "g" word (gentrification). And, finally, we can look towards the Eagle Rock of the future.

I look forward to this talk. While, I have lived here for nearly 30 years and, for me,  it will be interesting to get perspective on how Eagle Rock has slowly evolved over that time frame and what events and factors acted as catalysts for change.

I hope that you will find this topic interesting and that you will choose to join us for this wonderful event. There is the distinct possibility that a special guest may make an appearance bearing good tidings for Eagle Rock. And, And, there will be a wine and cheese reception afterwards.

So, don't miss out! As a token of our appreciation for our members, admission to this event is free for TERA members. However, even if you are not currently a member, there is still an opportunity for you to join us. Simply, sign up for a new TERA membership at the $35 level prior to the event, and you join in the festivities.

If you do plan to attend, please RSVP:

phone: 323-799-1190

I look forward to seeing you there and Happy Halloween!

The Collaborative Eagle Rock Beautiful - Making a Difference in Eagle Rock
By Jane Demian, TERA Board Member

Eagle Rock is home to many community groups dedicated to the improvement of Eagle

Rock. Contributions to these groups is an important aspect of Eagle Rock's community support and commitment.

The Collaborative Eagle Rock Beautiful (CERB) is one of the essential non-profit  volunteer groups dedicated to local landscape beautification projects and preserving  open space. CERB is known throughout the Eagle Rock community for their efforts to "green" the medians and parkways, and are always seeking volunteers and funding to support their various projects. In addition, very importantly, CERB is responsible for retiring the debt for the property that includes the trail adjacent to the iconic Eagle Rock.

You have the opportunity to show your support for CERB when they host their Annual Plant Sale Saturday, November 7th, 2015 at Eagle Rock City Hall from 9 am to 4pm.

CERB members will provide information on drought-resistant landscaping, and the use of native plants and succulents that can reduce residential watering needs by as much as 75%. Featuring a wide assortment of California natives and succulents, many plants at the Fall Plant Sale are locally sourced and harvested in Eagle Rock by CERB volunteers. All proceeds from the Fall Plant Sale will go to CERB to assist their local
efforts of neighborhood maintenance, mortgage payments for the Eagle Rock Trail, and their many other projects.

The Eagle Rock Association (TERA) will join other community supporters by donating $250 to this worthy non-profit organization. Please join TERA in supporting CERB by attending the Fall Plant Sale.
