Happy Thanksgiving! This month's e.letter will be very brief. (Un)fortunately, I was on vacation and did not have the opportunity to put together a full length letter.
However, I wanted to take the opportunity to wish each of you and your families a happy Thanksgiving. Also, I wanted to make you aware of a couple of upcoming local events.
4th Annual We Heart Eagle Rock Block Party This coming Saturday, November 29th, will be Small Business Saturday. For those who may not be familiar, Small Business Saturday, is a sort of counterpoint to Black Friday. Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season and is generally associated with large chain stores and their sales/promotions. Small Business Saturday celebrates the smaller, generally local-owned businesses, shops, and boutiques and gives you an opportunity to support them with a portion of your holiday spending.
In conjunction with Small Business Saturday, small shops along Eagle Rock and Colorado Boulevards will be holding their fourth annual We Heart Eagle Rock Block Party. Participating shops will have balloons outside and each shop will have its own type of promotion and/or festivities. A list of the participating shops is shown below and is also available as a foldout map in participating shops. Also, more information can be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/WeHeartEagleRock.
The event will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. So, please make a day of it and support our local merchants.
Gift Wrapping Station One of the participants in the We Heart Eagle Rock Block Party will be long-time TERA member and TERA Member Benefit participant, Leanna Lin. Her shop, Leanna Lin's Wonderland will be offering gift wrapping for all of you holiday gifts. The suggested price will be $8 per gift or 3 gifts for $20. You will be able to drop off your packages, continue to shop, and pick them up later. All of the proceeds from the gift wrapping station will go to Home Dog LA, and organization that helps to keep pets out of animal shelters by connecting people with necessary resources. Please support Leanna in this charitable endeavor.
Annual Eagle Rock Christmas Tree Lighting On Friday, December 5th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eagle Rock will hold it's 43rd annual Christmas tree lighting, sponsored by Councilmember José Huizar and the Eagle Rock Chamber of Commerce. This years event will feature P.G. Dance Art - Eagle Rock Dancers, Eagle Rock High School Youth Choir, Santa with gifts for children, hot chocolate and cookies & more!
The event will be held outside of the newly renovated Eagle Rock City Hall at 2035 Colorado Boulevard.
**** Please Renew Your Membership We have a number of longtime TERA members who have not yet renewed their membership. If you have simply forgotten, please take a moment right now to renew your membership. Your membership dues help to fund the work that TERA does. We can not succeed without you. If you are not renewing because you disagree positions or actions that TERA has taken, I would ask you to drop me a line at president@tera90041.org to let me know what you disagree with and why. This information helps me to better understand the full spectrum of the Eagle Rock community and can be helpful as we make future decisions. If you are not a TERA member or if you know someone who is not a member, now is the time to join us. A family membership only costs $35 and you can pay for it online using a credit card through PayPal. If you are more comfortable doing thing offline, we can send you a membership packet. For a membership packet (renewal or a new membership), please send an email to Marina Rimer, our membership coordinator at membership@tera90041.org. ________________________________________ Greg Merideth, President
