Times have changed since artist Touko Laaksonen needed to destroy his stylized homoerotic images because of the conservative atmosphere in Finland. Today these controversial art pieces have become a symbol of tolerance.

"The things he did are seen in a different light these days, more sympathetic," explains Susanna Luoto, the Finnish representative of the Tom of Finland Foundation (ToFF), which initiated the Posti stamp. "It has entered into another field than purely sexual. Tom stands for all tolerance today, beyond homosexuality."

Jukka Kutrttila says that Tom of Finland products have given Finlayson world wide recognition and he is trying to tell other Finnish companies to be a bit more risky and daring with their ad campaigns. He says that most Finnish companies are too afraid of any negative feedback, especially on social media, and because of that they are playing a bit too safe and boring.
