7 Decisions to Make Regarding Your Durable Power of Attorney
The durable power of attorney is your most important estate planning document. It appoints your agent or agents (called your "attorney-in-fact") to step in and act for you on financial and legal matters in the event you ever become incapacitated. It can permit them to pay your bills, make investment decisions, take planning steps, and take care of your family when you can't do so yourself. In theory, the durable power of attorney is a relatively simple document. But in fact most durable powers of attorney are several pages long and involve a number of important decisions.

2014 Update to Massachusetts Expert Panel on End of Life Care Report
The 2014 Update to the Massachusetts Expert Panel on End of Life Care Report is now available. This update coincides with the publication of the 2014 Institute of Medicine's report entitled Dying in America, FrontLine's film Being Mortal based on Dr. Atul Gawande's book of the same name, continued efforts by The Conversation Project, and our new state regulations requiring all licensed hospitals, clinics, and long term care facilities to offer information on a full range of end of life care options to adults with serious advancing illness.

Collectively these efforts make a compelling case for improving end of life care in the health care system.  Because so many end of life and palliative care experts and advocates in Massachusetts provide such valuable input, the 2014 MA Update should help to set the stage for this transformation to occur in the Commonwealth.
