International Law Board Certification Applications for Lawyers
Recertification Applicants:  If you were originally certified in 2001, 2006 or 2011. All requirements for recertification are to be completed by May 31, 2016 unless you file a recertification extension request. Applications must be postmarked by June 15, 2016. 

Initial Applicants
The filing period for initial applications opens July 1, 2016 and applications must be postmarked by August 31, 2016.
 
Applications for initial board certification and recertification will be available on the International Law Certification website by April 1, 2016.


Board Certification Awards
Nominate a Certified Lawyer by May 6Nominate a certified lawyer or judge for the BLSE's 2016 certification awards: The Justice Harry Lee Anstead Award for Florida Bar Board Certified Lawyer of the Year and the Award for Excellence in the Promotion of Board Certification.

You or one of your colleagues could be among the distinguished group of lawyers who are previous recipients. The Anstead award recognizes exemplary professionalism, excellence, character and commitment to The Florida Bar's certification program and to the practice of law. The excellence award recognizes excellence and creativity by a Florida Bar board certified lawyer or a law firm in advancing the public's knowledge of and appreciation for legal board certification. Applications are due May 6, 2016.

Rifkin and Jacqueline Villalba will present a lunchtime webinar entitled "Visa Strategies for the Entrepreneur," which aims to review non-immigrant visa strategies for the small business owner and/or investor. The seminar involves exploring the options that are available to an individual who would like to invest in a business either by acquisition or as a "startup." There will be discussion regarding the prerequisites involved in discerning which are the preferred options under the current policy. A registration link is forthcoming.

Managing Bilingual Mediation, from 12:00 - 1:40 p.m. with David S. Willig. 
This audio webcast will sensitize listeners to the ways effective mediation may go awry when one or more parties to the mediation primarily uses a language other than English. The session will cover what the mediator can do to render the mediation effective under such circumstances whether the mediator is bilingual, or not. Included will be suggested strategies and best practices to overcome obstacles to linguistic communication in mediation, as well as discussion of legal ethical issues impacting attorneys in the course of communications that may be required in the context of mediation.
