It is with great sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of our friend and colleague, Scott Allen Burr. Scott was a longstanding member of the section and gave generously of his time by actively participating in many section programs and projects. He will be sorely missed.  We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

International  Law Board Certification Applications for Lawyers
Recertification Applicants:  If you were originally certified in 2001, 2006 or 2011. All requirements for recertification are to be completed by May 31, 2016 unless you file a recertification extension request. Applications must be postmarked by June 15, 2016. 

Initial Applicants
The filing period for initial applications opens July 1, 2016 and applications must be postmarked by August 31, 2016.
 
Applications for initial board certification and recertification will be available on the International Law Certification website by April 1, 2016.

Nappert Prize 2016: Essay Contest for Young Lawyers and Law Students
The Nappert Competition is open to all students, junior scholars and junior practitioners from around the world. To be eligible for the prize, authors must be either currently enrolled in a B.C.L, LL.B., J.D., LL.M., D.C.L., or Ph.D. program (or their local equivalents). Those who are no longer in school must have taken their most recent degree within the last three years, or have been admitted to the bar (or the local equivalent) for no more than three years (whichever is later). Prize: First place: Can. $4,000; Second place: Can. $2,000; Third place: Can. $1,000. Call for Volunteer Arbitrators
The annual Florida Bar Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Pre-Moot Competition (the "Vis Pre-Moot") will take place at the Miami office of JAMS on Saturday, February 27, 2016. The Vis Planning Committee is currently seeking volunteers to sit as arbitrators for morning and afternoon rounds. CLE credits are available pending approval. Please contact the Vis Chair, Amy Shenstone (amyshenstone@gmail.com), if you would like to serve as an arbitrator.

IBA Latin American Bar Leaders' Summit Open Session, The Future of Continuous Legal Education, will take place on March 9, 2016 at the Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil Seccional do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
What is the Bar Association's role in training young lawyers beyond law school? In some jurisdictions it is the profession's responsibility for ensuring that lawyers are, and remain, competent to practice. This half-day program will share the experiences and challenges faced by the growing profession in Latin America and discuss best practice models that have been effective in other jurisdictions.
Bar leaders, Bar executives, training officers and private practitioners with an interest in Bar Issues and the regulatory perspective on legal issues should not miss this important event on the international law calendar.
