TOP STORY: Maryland's Senseonics is first IPO in the region in 2016
Germantown's Senseonics Holdings is expected to raise $45M in the region's first IPO.  Senseonics is commercializing products for people with diabetes and currently is focused on bring to market an implantable glucose sensor and transmitter which would be an alternative to repeated finger-pricking.

Rockville's ABL, with CRO and CMO capabilities, is part of a team awarded an IDIQ contract by the U.S. Army MRMC potentially worth $900M. The company also was awarded a 3-Year program extension as the Biologics Production Facility for NHLBI's SMARTT program. 

Baltimore startup Tissue Analytics raises $1.9M to further development of its wound care mobile app which enables doctors better analyze wounds and track their recovery.

Columbia's Osiris Therapeutics' first prospective post-market study demonstrates positive clinical outcomes using Grafix in the management of chronic complex diabetic foot ulcers.

Baltimore's Intralytix receives USDA NIFA Phase II SBIR grant to develop a phage-based application to protect hatchery-raised oysters from bacterial pathogens.

Gaithersburg's Smithers Avanza expands its bioanalytical laboratory increasing its staff and space capacity in support of its clients' requests for testing large molecule biotherapeutics. 

Baltimore's Profectus BioSciences forms a global collaboration with Vyrid to develop oncolytic recombinant VSV (rVSV) vaccines for cancer immunotherapy.

Frederick biomanufacturing company BioFactura, recently graduated from Frederick Innovative Technology Center (FITC) and moved into a new 5,520 sq. ft. HQ facility with plans to hire 25 new employees during next four years.

The Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR) located on the University of Maryland's Shady Grove campus, is seeking proposals to lease a 9100 square foot bio-manufacturing facility configured to produce biologicals under cGMP conditions in compliance with FDA requirements for phase I/II clinical trials.

Baltimore's Key Tech, on a short turn around, successfully developed a one-handed elecrtomechanical inject for use in marketing demonstrations by BD.

Johns Hopkins University's student startup PathoVax continues to make progress and receive recognition for its work developing a broad-spectrum HPV vaccine.

Johns Hopkins' Multidisciplinary Adult Cranioplasty Center and Walter Rood National Military Medical Center team together to improve chewing functions for patients.

Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health lead a clinical trial showing a single-dose dengue vaccine was 100% effective in preventing humans from contracting the virus.


New lab space is available for early stage companies in Baltimore and Montgomery county at LifeBridge BioIncubator, Harbor Launch, and Alexandria LaunchLabs.

The deadline to apply for TEDCO's new Life Science Investment Fund is April 15th.
