TOP STORY: Maryland Life Sciences Advisory Board Appointed
The Maryland Department of Commerce has a new slate of advisors supporting its activities to grow the biotechnology and health technology industry sectors in the state. Sixteen leaders from key federal, academic and industry organizations have been appointed by Governor Larry Hogan to the Maryland Life Sciences Advisory Board. The new appointees include a patient advocate, executives from global life sciences companies with U.S. headquarters in Maryland, small biotech companies, and leaders from the University of Maryland, University of Maryland Baltimore, Johns Hopkins University, Montgomery College, NIH, FDA and USAMRIID.

Bethesda's Sucampo commits up to $190M to license technology for the potential treatment of FAP, a rare hereditary disease characterized by cancer of the colon and rectum.

Germantown's Senseonics, developing the first fully implantable continuous glucose sensor designed for accurate, long-term wear, closes merger with ASN Technologies, Inc. 

Baltimore's Elixirgen announces license agreement with Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma.

Gaithersburg's Vtesse, Inc. announces FDA's granting of Breakthrough Therapy designation for VTS-270 in Niemann-Pick Type C1 disease.

Delaware Supreme Count affirmed earlier decision to award Annapolis' PharmAthene $113M in expectation damages for the value of lost profits for SIGA's smallpox antiviral. 

Silver Spring's BioIT Solutions, Inc. has been selected as one of the 50 Most Valuable Tech Companies in 2015 by Insights Success magazine in its December issue.

Washington Adventist Hospital granted permission to develop replacement hospital in White Oak adjacent to the FDA and Viva White Oak/Life Sciences Village project.
