TOP STORY:  GSK Establishes Global Vaccine R&D Center in MD
GlaxoSmithKline will establish a new global center for vaccines R&D in Rockville, Maryland with site operations anticipated to begin as early as September 2015.  The Center could bring as many as 700 new jobs to the region and is expected to employ 1,000 people by 2016.  

Maryland is the top vaccine cluster in the US--with vaccine experts working not only in industry (i.e. Aeras, Emergent BioSolutions, MedImmune, Novavax, Sanaria, Vaxin, Amarex, Paragon, MacroGenics, MaxCyte, Profectus Biosciences), at Johns Hopkins University and the University of MD; but also at FDANIAID, Walter Reed, Ft. Detrick, NPVO, NCI and many other federal agencies, companies and organizations in Maryland.

NINE of the top 50 Most Influential People in Vaccines worldwide are located in Maryland.

Bethesda's NW Biotherapeutics announces a $40M financing following clinical data released last week showing a 50% improvement in the survival of 51 GBM brain cancer patients who were too sick to be eligible for the company's Phase III clinical trial.
