TOP STORY:  NEA Leads Syndicate Investing $25M in Series A Funds 
                         to Launch New Biotech, VTESSE, INC., in Gaithersburg
Vtesse, Inc., a rare disease company focused on developing drugs for Niemann-Pick Disease Type C and other severe diseases, announced today that it has raised $25 million in Series A funding and established its headquarters office in Gaithersburg, MD.

Hunt Valley's Pharmaceutics International (Pii), a Contract Development Manufacturing Organization, has completed expansion of its Maryland facilities in preparation for future commercial approvals. Pii has more than 40 products pending approval with the FDA.  

Annapolis Junction's Proove Biosciences exclusively licenses additional genetic testing methods to augment its current pain medication dosing and evaluation capabilities. 

Bethesda's LiveHealthier Inc. is acquired by Centene Corporation. 

Silver Spring's United Therapeutics partners with Medtronics to get federal approval for an implantable drug infusion system to use with its pulmonary hypertension drug.

Bethesda's  Sucampo announces acceptance of new drug submission for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation in adults and opioid induced constipation in adults with chronic non-cancer pain by Health Canada.

NIH funded research makes Science's "Top 10" breakthroughs of the year.

initiative facilitating medical supply donations 
for the fight against Ebola in Africa. 
The BioMaryland Center is the office within Maryland's Department of Business and Economic Development which connects life sciences companies, academic and federal researchers with each other and with potential sources of capital, partners, and clients. 

The Center promotes the state's industry domestically and abroad and also provides business plan assistance, market research databases, site selection information, and other resources.
