Superintendent Felix Honored by the Classroom of the Future Foundation for Innovation in Education
Honoring education leaders, schools and programs that use dynamic educational technology and practices to prepare San Diego County students to thrive in a competitive workforce, the Classroom of the Future Foundation hosted its 13th Annual Innovation in Education Awards on May 25th.
Among the awardees was Coronado's own Superintendent, Dr. Jeffrey Felix, who received the Innovative Superintendent Award. Dr. Felix, who holds a master's degree in computer science and a doctorate in education, has been Superintendent of CUSD for 8 years and a Superintendent in San Diego County since 1997. His groundbreaking research on edublogging was the first in-depth study on the use of blogging as an instructional practice. He is well-known in the state for his work on the use of digital devices for personalized learning as well as Open Educational Resources (OER). He was the first in San Diego County to start a program of "Laptop Learning" in 1998. Coronado has achieved great success and notoriety for his leadership with OER and the creation of curriculum using these innovative techniques.
"Dr. Felix's digital inventiveness has prepared thousands of students for success over the past 19 years," said James Wright, the newly appointed CEO at Classroom of the Future Foundation. "His work with one to one learning and OER has influenced many of the districts in our county to become more innovative and thus more successful. The Foundation wanted to honor and promote that kind of pioneering spirit."
Classroom of the Future Foundation works hand-in-hand with educators like Dr. Felix to connect students to programs that prepare them for the workforce.
"Each year, the Foundation recognizes classroom leaders and programs that expand student learning through contemporary teaching techniques," said Wright. "The awardees this year are prime examples of how schools can use innovative learning practices to create pathways to success in a 21st Century workforce."
