CSF Telethon is Just One Week Away!
Free Community Family Event Begins Thursday; Huge Turnout Expected for Live Telethon
Coronado comes together this Thursday supporting our schools through the televising of live performances in the CHS Theater and a family fun Carnival in the Quad. The event begins at 4:30 with the family carnival, karaoke, face painting, hand gliding planes, sumo wrestling, robotics, a BBQ food/drink, and more! This is a free event for the entire community.
The event not only provides a fun evening, but more importantly, it makes a huge impact in our schools. The Coronado Schools Foundation is hoping to match last year's success of $200,000, allowing our schools to continue investing heavily into our students' future.

SOLO Program Expected to Grow
Online Courses and Opportunities at CHS for Next Year
CHS Principal Moore sent out a description recently of the online learning programs and an application to participate in SOLO classes for all students. Students interested in enrolling in an online course must have a teacher's recommendation since the independent study model is not ideal for all learners. The teacher recommendation form is easy to complete, but parents are strongly urged to help their students fill out the form.
For years, CHS has offered online (computer-based, self-paced) courses during the school year and in summer school to students in need of remediating courses and credits. At the end of last school year, CHS adopted an online independent study program in an acknowledgment that particular students benefit from this approach to learning, along with access to the opportunities offered.

Surfrider Foundation's Mark West Visits with Village Elementary 5th Graders
Mark West from the Surfrider Foundation recently visited students from Mrs. Garner's 5th grade class at Village Elementary. The 5th graders have been examining the impacts of human activity on our water as part of their NGSS science curriculum. They learned how their action on land greatly affects water and wildlife. Mr. West demonstrated how human activity can pollute our beaches and waterways.
However, he encouraged students to get involved and lead the way in protecting our ocean and keeping the beaches clean. He inspired them to step forward and make a positive impact by keeping the beaches free of trash, using refillable water bottles, and reusable bags.
