CUSD Schools Using OER as Part of Nationwide Movement
The U.S. Department of Education launched a campaign to encourage schools to use Open Educational Resources (OER). These resources are freely accessible, openly licensed documents and media that are useful for teaching, learning, and assessing as well as for research purposes. The U.S. Department of Educational Technology has been assembling innovative districts excited about the OER movement to share and learn from one another. Our District was recently selected to join this nationwide endeavor called the #GoOpen initiative.
The #GoOpen initiative will help districts to switch to openly licensed educational materials enabling us to repurpose funding typically spent on static textbooks for other pressing needs, such as investing in the transition to digital learning. There is no cost to this commitment. For more information about the federal program, click this link http://tech.ed.gov/open-education/go-open-districts/.
A page was built on the District website specifically to explain what CUSD is doing with OER. You can find full presentations created for this special event, and very useful to our District over the next few years. Take an especially careful look at the CUSD #GoOpen Proposal 2016. You can find this page at http://coronadousd.net/goopen/.

CHS Student Oliver Palmieri Volunteers for the Challenge to Help Restore Little Mack Pumper to its Former Glory
The 1938 Little Mack pumper is the best looking entry in all of our recent Fourth of July parades, but it was missing one thing. There was no place for the passengers to sit while riding in the parade. This is where the School District gets involved.
CHS wood shop teacher Ken Heskestad and student Oliver Palmieri volunteered for the challenge to build a bench to fit into the hose bed to make the restoration of Little Mack complete.

NJROTC Highly Successful with Annual Pass-In-Review Inspection
Anyone walking by the football field on Tuesday (FEB 16th) must have thought that a military marching team was visiting, because of all the flags and the parade music. You could see swords flashing in the sunlight, and hear Platoon Commanders calling cadence. Yet this wasn't a visiting marching team - it was Coronado High School's NJROTC Islander Company, performing their annual Pass-In-Review parade.

Social Emotional Curriculum at Crown Preschool Teaches Teamwork
Students continue to work on learning about friendship at school. They learned the importance of how to work together to solve problems. While working together, they learned that they can make amazing things with teamwork.
One day they learned a fun song using a social emotional curriculum called "The Circle of Education." The song was called "We All Get Our Turn." This song helps children identify caring/sharing behaviors to be practiced. It also helps children understand other people's feelings and learn how to work together with others.
