CoSA's "A Piece of My Heart" Begins Tonight; Female Vietnam Veteran Stories Prominently Portrayed
Their stories are unknown to most of us. But alongside 2.7 million American men who fought in the Vietnam War, were 15,000 American women - mostly military nurses and WACS, as well as Red Cross and USO volunteers - who served as well. Seven CoSA/CHS students will bring the female veterans' stories to the stage in Shirley Lauro's acclaimed drama, "A Piece of My Heart," beginning tonight through February 28th at the Coronado Performing Arts Center, located at 650 D Avenue in Coronado.

SAFE Parenting Conference Draws Huge Crowd; Parents Asking for More
Coronado SAFE's 4th Annual Parenting Conference was a huge success with over 150 people in attendence. Keynote speaker Dr. Diana Divecha, PhD, who works with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence spoke on the changing teen brain and what parents can do to help through the tough transition. "Antarctic Mike" Mike Pierce related his experience as an Antarctic marathon runner to the grit and perseverance kids need to have to get ahead in the world. In addition there were 4 workshops on topics from anxiety to on-line addictions.

Islander's Cheyne Ostrander Honored by Civic Group for Outstanding Leadership
Coronado High School's ASB President Cheyne Ostrander was among those honored for their time serving their fellow students, holding offices and governing positions, planning school events, and serving on committees. In addition to this time commitment, Cheyne also serves on the Coronado Unified School District Governing Board as the Student Representative.
More than 100 ASB presidents and over 400 parents, school officials, and civic and military leaders celebrated the event. The ASB presidents sat with mentors, counselors, or teachers during the luncheon with San Diego Unified School District's Superintendent Cindy Marten as the keynote speaker. The event took place at San Diego State University.

CHS is Looking for a Few Local Volunteers to Talk about Careers with Students
CHS will hold its first Career Awareness Day on Thursday, March 3rd in response to students' overwhelming desire for exposure to information about careers and vocations. Based on interest, students will choose and experience two panels of community representatives from a variety of career fields.

2016 CSF Telethon Hosts take the Stage on March 10; Watch it Live or in Person!
This year's CSF Telethon hosts will be joining the principals from each site as they welcome CSF business partners and community members onto the CHS Performing Arts Theatre stage to accept donations, announce live student acts, read YOUR name as a donor, and showcase the excitement and activity going on in the quad.
