Message from the School Board President
School Board Prepares for Selecting New Superintendent by Authorizing Nationwide Search Following the announcement last November of the July 1, 2016 retirement of Superintendent Jeff Felix, the governing board will begin its search for a new CUSD superintendent at a special school board meeting on January 14. The board will interview search firms to assist in planning an objective search and provide technical guidance. The interview portion of the meeting will begin at 5:30 PM in the district office board room.
In a letter to CUSD staff this week, Board President Maria Simon said, "It is important to this board that our staff and the community understand our search process, and that communication between stakeholders is open and transparent. The success of our search, and ultimately the success of our next superintendent, will depend on many factors, but foremost is that we clearly define what/who we are looking for. Selecting a new superintendent offers us an opportunity to reflect on where we are, where we want to go, and what characteristics and qualifications our new leader should have to help us achieve our goals."
The governing board has stated that input from both the school community and the Coronado community is crucial to a successful search. The process will include an opportunity in the next few months for all stakeholders to participate. The board will reach out to staff, parents and community members through forums, surveys, and interviews. The feedback from these outreach events will help formulate the criteria that will be used in the selection process. A schedule of these events will be completed by mid-February.
