State Test Results Delayed to Next Week
New Teaching Approach Connects Learning to Life
|
Coronado Unified School District students are on the path to Connecting Learning to Life! Over the past several years, most states (including CA) have worked with educators, business leaders, and colleges to define the skills needed for students to graduate college and be career-ready. This new approach to learning has shifted Coronado's focus to teaching these higher level skills and regularly checking progress to ensure our students are moving masterfully toward their learning goals. Now, with a new and better test, we will have the information we need to adjust teaching and improve learning, increasing each student's opportunity to succeed.
STAR testing is gone and the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) has taken its place. These new tests which students took for the first time a few months ago, are engaging, interactive, and uniquely accessible with questions that require high level thinking, look like real life problems, and are similar to classroom work. Most important, it provides information that informs the actions your teachers take each and every day in the classroom.
As of this writing, the California Department of Education (CDE) will tentatively release statewide all student performance data that is part of the CAASPP system next Wednesday, September 9, at 11:00 AM. Our Coronado data along with state, county, and other district & school baseline data results will be available. The results and supporting information will be available to you in several ways:
- A public website will be available at http://caaspp.cde.ca.gov
- Individual Student Reports will be mailed home to parents and guardians. At this writing, CUSD has not yet received these reports; they are expected to arrive sometime in September and will be mailed from the District Office. Individual student reports are not a part of the public website.
- Online Parent Guides with comprehensive guidance by grade and subject are available (grades 3-5, grades 6-8, grade 11). These guides will have sample questions, sample items, and other examples. Parent Guides will be posted at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/index.asp under the Parents tab.
- CUSD will hold parent information opportunities in the month of October for parents to learn about the new assessment and the new reporting features. Dates for these events are to be decided based upon the pending release dates from the state.
