CHS Senior Student Athletes
Honored by Rotary for Sports and Academic Accomplishments

 

Almost a dozen Senior athletes at CHS were honored Wednesday by the Rotary Club of Coronado for their years of athletic prowess as well as their incredible performance in the classroom.  CHS Athletic Director Robin Nixon hosted the event and supported verbally what is arguably the finest sports program in San Diego County. Here are the CHS student athletes of the year including their current sport(s) and the college they will be attending in the fall:

Matt Spear- This championship golfer will be attending USC.

Cassidy Wiley- Three sport star in water polo, swimming, and volleyball will be going to Stanford.

Tanner Caldwell- Featured player on state-wide championship soccer team will be going to SMU.

Erik Armes- Cross-country, track, swimming, and triathlon all benefitted from this superstar who is off to SEC in Auburn.

Hannah Downy- She pulled off the hat-trick in lacrosse, track, and cross-country and will now be marching off to the Naval Academy.

Matt Gillingham- Taking the All-American route in football, basketball, and baseball with him to TCU.

Mackenzie Wiley- Stanford will enjoy the skills she displayed at CHS in water polo, swimming, and volleyball.

Tyler Gilmore- This young man served as the Student Rotarian of the day as he has served in a number of community service opportunities throughout his career at CHS.  Tyler is a star in both soccer and golf and will be strutting his stuff at Vasser College in NY.

Madison Smith- Tennis and soccer are her games and she will prove that at Dennison next year.

Michael Rodriquez- He excelled in both football and lacrosse and he will be doing that again at the Merchant Marine Academy.

Jack Walsh- He will be showcasing his water polo skills at Cal Berkeley.

 

Other senior students honored at the event were Student Rotarians including Lauren McBride (Emory), Chris Cervantes (USC), Olivia Angelino (Cal), Kristen Cox (UC Davis), Sam McPeak (Dennison), Lisa Vo (Harvard), Daniel Nagey (UC Davis), and Sophia Zaller (Univ. of Chicago).

Highest Academic Honor Awarded to CHS Seniors; Speakers at Grad Ceremony June 10

 

Principal Jenny Moore announced this week to the CHS Islanders that the Class of 2015 Valedictorian will be Lisa Vo and the Salutatorian will be Lavanya Mittal.  "These students reflect their own hard work and determination, and the support of our schools, our staff, our community, their peers, and their families," said Mrs. Moore.  "I could not be more proud of them!"

CoSA Presents the 2015 Coronado Summer Intensives  

Registration is now open for the highly anticipated 2015 Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) Summer Intensive Program! Launched in 2014 in partnership with the Coronado Cultural Arts Commission (CACC), the program garnered rave reviews and culminated in a finale performance open to the general public at the Coronado Performing Arts Center. The 2015 Intensive is looking to build on that success with a new Program Director, Matt Carney, a strong line-up of industry guest artists, and expanded opportunities in the area of Dance, Film/TV and the addition of an Acting Intensive. The intensive is a 3-week program running July 6-24, 2015 and will be taught in the state-of-the-art studios and facilities of the Coronado School of the Arts. Each intensive program is designed to give the participant a "real life" snapshot of life as a professional in their area of interest. This year's LIVE finale performance, Summer Arts Showcase will be July 24 featuring all intensive participants.   CoSA logo

Students create inventions so that they would learn to cope with the stress that accompanies military lifestyle.  The inventions were created by students attending the Military Kids Club.  These projects were displayed in the Silver Strand School lobby during the Month of the Military child.
