CHS Athletic Director Given Standing Ovation
Rotarians Honor Robin Nixon with Service Above Self Award
The Rotary Club of Coronado Wednesday proudly presented CHS Athletic Director Robin Nixon the Bob Watson Service Above Self Award. The award was given to Robin for the community leadership role she plays as both the Athletic Director and as a teacher/administrator for the school and the entire district. A standing ovation of Rotarians recognized her dedication to the community.

"Robin's support of the CHS student athletes and the youth of Coronado is unparalleled," said Rotarian Jane Braun. "It was a pleasure to present her with the award today."
This award is presented in honor of the late Past District Governor Robert Watson, in recognition of his personification of "Service Above Self" and good citizenship. Robin was nominated for the award by Rotarians Jim Hardy and Jane Braun.
The award is given quarterly to a Rotarian or a community member for an action or effort that demonstrates or contributes to the highest standards of citizenship while exhibiting Service Above Self.
This statement was submitted by Jim Hardy and Jane Braun and read to Robin and the audience as the award was presented:
As the Coronado High School Athletic Director, Robin Nixon is the linchpin to incredible, first class school sports programs; not just one or two high visibility programs, but across the board serving all of our kids. She does an outstanding job of flawlessly managing and de-conflicting all sports facilities within Coronado Unified School District. Boundless energy and enthusiasm for each and every student, acting both as a role model and an advocate for our students. Selfless of her time, ALWAYS the biggest fan at all CHS sporting events. Further, she is accessible 24/7 to tackle issues that arise at the CHS campus' working many weekends when tournaments or special events are held at CHS. Robin's leadership in the community ensures that CHS Athletics Program continues to excel despite a shrinking budget. This is service above self!

| CMS Students Visit and Learn at the Coronado Fire Station |
| The San Diego Astronomy Association hosted a star gazing event for third grade Village Elementary students. It was a great, clear sky, perfect for viewing the many night stars and planets! Students experienced a special treat when the International Space Station passed by as a bright light overhead. Anyone can receive alerts that will inform you each time the Space Station is visible in your zip code. Click the picture above to sign up!
| Recently CMS teacher Mrs. Leontieff and her students visited the Coronado Fire Station as part of their community-based instruction. Students learned about the different parts of the station including the office, the kitchen where the firemen eat and spend time, and the garage where the engines and trucks are kept. They were also shown and allowed to wear the heavy gear worn by firemen during a fire. Students learned about fire emergencies, who to call, and how to differentiate emergencies from other events. |

Reaching for the STARS...
Only a Few More Days to Win an Ice Cream Party for Your Child's School!
With the Coronado Schools Foundation Telethon just 13 days away on Thursday, March 12th, Silver Strand Elementary has taken the lead in participation for donations and STARS returned.
"We are excited to see the donations and decorated STARS arriving in the mail and being dropped off in our office for this event. With Strand moving ahead of Coronado Middle School this week, and Village and Coronado High close behind, it will be exciting when the winning school is announced in the final block of the Telethon," noted Patty Cowan, Chief Executive Officer. "And, if families have children at more than one school, they can submit multiple stars with their donation of any amount. Even community members without kids in our schools are designating a school site with their donation. We are so appreciative of David Spatafore and Mootime Creamery for donating an ice cream party to the school that has the highest level of participation with STARS. Watch the thermometers at each school site to see who is in the lead!" she added.

Win a Holland's bike or Emerald City surfboard! With any donation of $50 or more, you will be entered into a drawing for a bike ($400) value from Holland's Bicycles and with a $500 donation, you'll also be entered to win an Emerald City Modern Blackbird Surfboard, 8 foot, with a retail value of over $500.
