CHS Lacrosse Coach Jessica Battle Honored

CIF Honors 2014-15 Model Coach Award Winners

The CIF State Office today announced the 2014-15 Model Coach Award winners. Jessica Battle, Coronado High School Girls Lacrosse Coach was named as one of those honored.  The CIF Model Coach Award program is designed to recognize coaches who have served as positive role models in their schools and communities, and who have exhibited the traits apparent in the 16 principles of Pursuing Victory with Honor.

Coach Battle has led the varsity lacrosse team at Coronado High School for 18 years. She keeps herself in tip-top physical condition and passes this on to her players throughout the season.  Her commitment to the lacrosse program at Coronado gives the girls a sense of continuity and support that allows them to flourish and find their confidence. Her love of lacrosse is truly inspiring for all of her players, both current and former, and really serves as an example of what true dedication looks like.  She is not only an excellent role model for her current players, but for her former players as well.

The 12 winners, nominated through their local CIF Section office, will receive an award and be honored at their sport's State Championship or at an event of the recipient's choosing.

Cymer, CIF Honor Top-Achieving High School Teams for Fall Sports

Cymer and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) San Diego Section have announced the top-achieving fall athletic teams from each of five regions in the San Diego Section. From the South Region, Coronado High School placed 4 out of the 7 student athletes on the All Academic Team.

The CIF All Academic Teams honor the school teams in each sport and region with the highest, combined, unweighted grade point average. From each of those teams, Cymer is honoring the junior or senior with the highest, cumulative, weighted high school grade point average, and those students are known as Cymer Scholars.

"These are outstanding students," said CIF San Diego Section Commissioner Jerry Schniepp. "Their achievement is a reflection on their coaches, schools and families."

CHS Student Art Featured in Major Exhibition in Balboa Park

Three students from CoSA DigArts Graphic Design were selected recently in the San Diego Museum of Art's Young Art 2015: Visualizing Music Juried student exhibit. The Museum received 641 submissions for the Young Art exhibition, and a panel of 10 jurors chose only 300. The students created original graphic work using a professional software called Adobe Illustrator. Those students selected were:
  • Gabby Elicone, a senior created "Soundwave"
  • Jade Verbick, a senior created "Musical Creativity"
  • Anthony Dugan-Pinkston, a junior created "Music Explosion"

This year is SDMART's 43rd biennial youth art exhibition hosted by the Museum and takes inspiration from The Art of Music (Fall 2015), the last of the scheduled exhibitions for the year 2015. Young Art 2015: Visualizing Music has been conceived as part of the wider program designed in celebration of the 1915 Panama-California Exposition Centennial and will include works that explore the creative connections between visual art and music.

The exhibition opens on April 11, 2015 at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park.
