CHS Teacher Eric Rempe Creates Art, Inspires Students

H.L. Mencken once observed that those who can, do, while those who can't, teach. Eric Rempe, Coronado High School's ceramics teacher, serves as a notable exception to this rule. In addition to being a lauded teacher, he is a ceramist whose work is exhibited around the world -- from Asia to Scandinavia -- as well as in museums and galleries across the United States.

Currently, Rempe's pieces are on display at Steinfest 2014; an online marriage of craft beer and contemporary beer steins, held by Claymakers in Durham, North Carolina. Rempe is one of 200 artists from across the nation and Canada who were invited to participate. And next month, his work will be featured in San Diego's annual Pottery Tour.

Nado Water Polo Men Take Top Spot in NorCal Tournament; Considered One of the Best Teams in the State
The last of the elite California boys' prep water polo tournaments ended in San Jose last Saturday with a surprise winner. The Coronado Islander men defeated Sacred Heart Prep in the final of the Bellarmine-based NorCal Tournament, 15-13, after a string of impressive wins over high quality opponents including Clovis, Corona del Mar, Foothill, and Menlo. Sacred Heart was widely considered to be the third best team in California behind Harvard-Westlake and Mater Dei and may still be so.
'Nado and the strong San Diego programs have mostly evaded this autumn's discussion about the top teams in the state. The NorCal win, and an earlier-week defeat of rivals Bishop's, should at least propel the Islanders to the top of the San Diego rankings and fairly places them among the most threatening teams in the entire state.
