November 6th is the Next Late Start Thursday
CUSD has made changes to four student days for the 2014-15 school year. On four mornings during the school year, all Preschool through Grade 12 students will begin their school day at 10:00 a.m. The school day will conclude at the usual school dismissal time on these days.
The remaining CUSD Student Late Start Thursdays are planned for November 6, January 29, and March 5.
During this early morning time period, teachers will be participating in professional development activities and working collaboratively to ensure a well-articulated continuum of Common Core instruction from Preschool through Grade 12. Student annual instructional minutes per grade level will continue to be met.
CUSD Child Care services will be offered for parents during these four days. Click here for Information on Child Care or call 619-522-8940.

Awesome Teamwork Thanks to CSF
Mouse Squad Class Thriving at CMS as Students Support Other Students
A Mouse Squad of students has been supporting students and staff at CMS for the last two years in all areas of technology need. Because of its success, the class is now expanding to provide other technology support at Village Elementary. Funded by the Coronado Schools Foundation (CSF) this nationally recognized program is supervised by Toni Trinidad, Village Computer Lab Teacher, and Jennifer Landry, CMS Mouse Squad teacher. This unique collaboration is bringing student-led computer support to first and second grade students.
Every Tuesday and Friday afternoon, two Mouse Squad students come to the Village Lab for about 45 minutes. Mouse Squad leaders support students by helping them understand and use usernames and passwords, navigate learning programs like Ticket to Read, learn to type via Edu-Typing, and gain resources from websites like Starfall.com and abcya.com.
Most importantly, Mouse Squad leaders are helping students understand their user errors in order to cement a clearer understanding of computer navigation. These CMS student tech leaders come to class with official T-shirts and nametags, and get busy teaching our youngest learners. The elementary students are enjoying being able to learn from older, tech-savvy students; while older students enjoy the benefit of added responsibilities and an expanded leadership role beyond their own campus.
