Grants have been made from the NCUA to 309 credit unions to expand services to underserved communities, train staff, improve cybersecurity and provide students with work experience. There were eight Indiana credit unions that received grants: Del Met FCU, Harvester Financial CU, Indiana Heartland FCU, Indiana State University FCU, Mt. Zion Indianapolis FCU, Natco CU, Notre Dame FCU, ProFinance FCU.

Forbes looks into what makes a credit union different from other financial institutions. As not-for-profit, cooperative financial institutions, credit unions are able to return earnings back to their members, unlike other financial institutions. In addition, consumers usually find that credit unions offer better account terms, lower interest rates and fewer fees compared to for-profit financial institutions.
