Sen. Coats reintroduced the Community Financial Protection Act, legislation that would provide credit unions with relief from crippling financial regulations. He first introduced this bill during the 113th Congress.
Credit unions again are being noted for their ability to foster service excellence as they were named among the top companies for customer experience as recorded by research firm Temkin Group.

Amias Gerety, U.S. Treasury Acting Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions, spoke at CUNA's GAC and wrote about his speech on the U.S. Treasury's blog. He wrote that "By collaboratively sharing information about malicious cyber activity, affected parties can help to ensure that the incidents impacting one organization do not also affect another."
It's easy to confuse credit unions with banks. They offer many of the same services and, from the street, their operations look similar. But peek under the hood and you'll find major distinctions. Depending on your needs, moving to a credit union could save you some serious money.
New Credit Union National Association President and CEO Jim Nussle challenged members to view advocacy as their No. 1 priority. He said that for credit unions to sing with one voice, they must all be on the same page. He added that every voice must contribute, but the voices must blend in order for the new Congress to "hear our song." "Advocacy is job one," Nussle said. "The most important job I can do is to remove the barriers between you and your credit union members."

Nearly 5,000 credit union members will "Hike the Hill" last week to speak to lawmakers and their staffs while they were in town for the Credit Union National Association's Government Affairs Conference. Members met with legislators and their staffs on their legislative priorities, which include regulatory relief and stopping data breaches.
