Additional Flood Resources

Many of our District J residents have worked very hard to get their lives back in order following the Tax Day Flood. There are still resources available to those who need access to them.

Homeowners who have flood insurance and who are interested in elevating their homes following the 2016 Tax Day Flood now have a FEMA grant opportunity available. Interested homeowners must apply by Friday, May 6, 2016. Please click the above link for more information.

FEMA has also set up a Disaster Recovery Center  ("DRC") at the Bayland Community Center (6400 Bissonnet). A DRC is an accessible facility or mobile office where survivors may go to access information about FEMA and other disaster assistance programs.

As always, do not hesitate to reach out to your District J office should you have additional questions or needs.

Zika Virus Information

Did you know that only 1 in 5 people infected with the Zika Virus will get sick? As we enter the rainier,  warmer season in Houston, it is important to take steps to prevent mosquito infestations and thereby lessen the possibility of the Zika virus affecting our area.

The City of Houston has put together important information and FAQs on prevention, identification and treatment of the Zika Virus. Please click the above and below images as well for additional information.

Summer Job Fair in District J

If you are a young person looking for some extra cash this summer, you're in luck! There will be a summer job fair this Saturday, May 7th, 10am-3pm at the Southwest Multi-Service Center (6400 High Star). McDonald's of Greater Houston and the City of Houston are teaming up to host this Summer Job Fair program as part of the effort to help employ youth over the summer.

At the job fair, you can expect to receive tips on improving your interview skills and a crash course on financial literacy, from Bank on Houston. In order to qualify for a position, candidates must have a Texas ID, Social Security Card and be between the ages of 16-24.

Additional information regarding the Hire Houston Youth program can be found here.
