Changes Come to District J TIRZs
Following input from the community and a joint effort between residents, the Sharpstown TIRZ #20 board and my office, boundary changes to the TIRZ #20 area passed City Council on November 4th. This included the de-annexation of 109 homes in Sharpstown Sec. 2 and the addition of the commercial business area centered around Harwin Dr., Bonham Park, Braeburn Glen Park and the Lee LeClear Tennis Center. These new areas will now benefit from access to resources provided by TIRZ 20.
On Nov. 10th, changes were also made to the boundaries of the St. George Place TIRZ #1. This expansion followed upon recommendations taken from the Urban Land Institute's early-2015 study of the area.
For the past two years local residents, business stakeholders, and your District J office have been engaged in a discussion of how best to revitalize this part of District J.
Property owners located in the current and proposed boundaries of TIRZ 1 were invited to participate in public meetings where the proposed changes were discussed:
- Greenridge Drive
- Anderson Park - Chimney Rock Reconstruction and Drainage Work
- Bering Drive - Schumacher / Fairdale Lane
I am excited that these changes will lay the groundwork for increased economic development and improved infrastructure in District J.
Thank You,
-Council Member Mike Laster, District J

Crain & Lansdale Park Groundbreaking
Ground was broken for improvements at Crain and Lansdale Parks on Friday, November 13th! This followed City Council's approval of a $1 million contract to begin construction on a new splash pad at Lansdale Park and new concrete walking trail at Crain Park. Recently, additional funding was also secured for a brand new family picnic pavilion, which will replace the current pavilion. The current pavilion is scheduled to be demolished as early as this week.
