District J Abandoned Shopping Carts Pilot Program
Shopping carts + Houston = the Wild West.
You see abandoned carts at bus stops, in your neighborhood, and even in our Bayous! These carts aren't cheap either, costing retailers $100-$400 to replace. As you can imagine, these costs are passed on to the customer. Reducing cart abandonment is a win-win for all Houstonians.
At the beginning of November, an abandoned shopping cart retrieval pilot program will begin in District J. The program will last for 90 days, after which the results will be reviewed with industry stakeholders and the community.

This initiative is being undertaken with the goal of creating a city ordinance that would address retrieval of abandoned shopping carts.

The program is being funded by the District J Council District Service Fund. Stay tuned for more details and results! By undertaking initiatives like this one, we can continue to improve the quality of life for our communities.

Thank You,

Election Day!

As many of you may know, tomorrow, Tuesday, November 3rd, is Election Day! This will be the last day you are able to vote in the 2015 elections. Not only are there many important city-wide elections taking place, but there are multiple county-wide and state-wide propositions that will be voted on as well.

If you haven't already voted, you can find your precinct polling location by visiting the website for the Office of the Harris County Clerk. Additionally, election information can be found on the non-partisan League of Women Voters site.

Bellerive Garden Project Honored

It was great to see the Bellerive Garden Project honored at the 31st Annual Mayor's Proud Partners Luncheon!

The Mayor's Proud Partners Luncheon is the single largest event dedicated to raising funds to further Keep Houston Beautiful's (KHB) mission. KHB works to build more beautiful communities through conducting year-round conservation, greening and solid waste management programs and services throughout our city.

The Bellerive Garden Project was a joint initiative that helped constituents at a senior housing project transform an old drainage easement into a sustainable vegetable garden.

These improvements were made possible through an amazing partnership between the Houston Housing Authority, Keep Houston Beautiful, TBG Partners, Public Works' Street and Drainage Division, the City's Reuse Warehouse, the Solid Waste Department, the Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, St. Agnes and Strake Jesuit student groups and other community volunteers, and your District J office.
