Reconstruction on "Lake Fondren" Begins
As many of you have seen, a major, comprehensive reconstruction project of Fondren from 59 to Westpark has finally begun!

One of the biggest constituent concerns your District J office hears is the amount of flooding on "Lake Fondren," near the 59 and Fondren intersection. This major infrastructure project will not only include a complete reconstruction of the road, but a much-needed upgrade to the area storm-water drainage system.

Utility work is commencing currently, which includes upgrades to storm sewer, drinking water, and sanitary sewer lines. Upgrades to road paving, sidewalks and ADA ramps will commence next year. Please pardon our dust and expect traffic delays in the upcoming months!

Included in the construction will be a new masonry wall along Fondren. I am pleased this work was added to the project. Construction on the wall will begin next year.

With the recent completion of the renovated Bellaire Boulevard, I am pleased that construction of another new major project in District J is finally beginning!

Thank You,

99 Cent Only Store Dumpsters

The 99 Cent Only Store dumpsters at 5800 Bellaire have been a regularly reported eyesore to our office. As you can see from the above "before" photos, there was a huge disregard for maintaining a clean and tidy dumpster area in the back of the building off of Dashwood.

In August, a meeting between Council Member Laster, the property manager, and the Department of Neighborhoods led to an agreement about what practices would be put in place to ensure this area stayed clean. As you can tell from the "after" pictures, the agreement is proving successful. But as always, please let us know if the blight returns!
