A Special Thanks to Our Disaster Relief Teams

Over the past few weeks, many residents in District J have dealt with hardships after the flood. While there is still work to be done, I want to thank the volunteers who have been at the forefront of helping our most-affected neighbors. These volunteers have contributed their time, sweat, and hard work to help District J recover. I cannot thank them enough for their invaluable contributions to the relief effort.

If you would like to donate to the Greater Houston 2015 Flood Relief Fund, or volunteer, please find more information here. If you have still not reported structural damage and need assistance, please let us know so that we can coordinate resources.

Thank You,

New METRO Bus Network

In case you missed it, roll out of the new METRO Bus Network will launch August 16th, 2015! The new route is designed to significantly improve the frequency of bus arrivals and routes, especially in Southwest Houston.

METRO users will start noticing changes prior to August 16th. Current route signs will be bagged and temporary signage will be placed on poles to notify riders of any route changes. This is a five year plan with the first phase taking place in August.

Patrons are now able to use the new "Dual Trip Planner" to see side-by-side comparisons of current and new routes. In August, a new service will also become available called "Next Bus Texting", where patrons will be able to receive next bus arrival times on their cell phones via text message.

The vote to finalize route changes will be taken at the upcoming METRO board meeting (June 25th), and public comments will be accepted until then.

U.S. Small Business Administration Assistance

As a result of the Presidential disaster declaration, Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest federal disaster loans are available to Texas businesses and residents impacted by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding that began on May 4th.

  • Homeowners may borrow up to $200,000 to repair or replace their disaster-damaged primary residence.
  • Homeowners and renters may also borrow up to $40,000 to replace disaster-damaged personal property, including vehicles.
  • Interest rates may be as low as 4% for businesses, 2.625% private non-profit organizations and 1.688% for homeowners and renters.

Currently the SBA is working out of the Meyerland Community Improvement Association (4999 W Bellfort Street), Mondays through Sundays 8am - 8pm. More information is available or you can call (800) 659-2955.

Legacy Community Health to Kick Off New Clinic
This past Friday, June 12th, Legacy Community Health began the demolition of a newly acquired property next to the existing Legacy Southwest Clinic (6441 High Star Dr.)

Although this facility is in an early planning stage, Legacy will use this future space to serve a growing patient base.  In 2014 alone, the clinic served more than 42,000 uninsured and underinsured patients - a 300% growth since 2010.
