SER-Niņos Visits City Hall
In District J, we are proud of our schools which work hard to provide quality education to our children. SER-Niņos Charter School is a stellar example of a school making a difference in the lives of our young people, their families, and the community as a whole. This Pre-K through 8th Grade charter school, is consistently ranked as one of the best schools in Houston, and has operated in the Gulfton neighborhood since 1996.
It was a joy to welcome their students and teachers this past Wednesday as they visited City Hall to attend the Housing and Community Affairs Committee. Student representatives spoke before the committee in support of a new children's library to be housed on the SER-Niņos campus.
Through a unique partnership with Houston Public Libraries (HPL), SER-Niņos will be home to a new library that will serve its students and the public at large! Operated by the school, the library will offer many of the same amenities available at other HPL locations, and will also include a new community space for meetings, programs, and educational opportunities.
The new library will join the Walter Branch Library, located at Clarewood and Fondren, and the satellite library located at the City's Highstar Multipurpose Center, as HPL facilities located in District J. I hope you will join me in supporting this wonderful new addition to our community!
Thank You,

- Council Member Mike Laster, District J
