Dynamos Surprise & Support Sharpstown Apollos!

You may have recently noticed the request to join me in helping raise funds for the JV and Varsity Soccer Teams at Sharpstown High School.  Well...one very big organization did hear our call for help - the Houston Dynamo!

Wednesday, April 27th, the Houston Dynamo came to Sharpstown High School for a surprise visit.  Boniek Garcia, Dynamo all-star, mid-fielder, and Honduran National Team Member, announced that the Apollos would be the beneficiary for the "Every Save Counts" Program!

Presented by Univision, MLS WORKS, and in conjunction with Dynamo Charities, this national initiative donates $500 for soccer equipment for every Official Save during Friday games this broadcast this season. The Sharpstown Apollos are the lucky Dynamo recipients for the May 1st and May 22nd games!

As of May 1st, the Dynamo have made 1 save, amounting to $500 for the Sharpstown Apollos! You can also directly provide fundraising to the Sharpstown Apollos by buying a ticket to the 5/5 game here. Hope to see you at the game!

Go Apollos and Dynamo!!!

Former South Africa President Visit
On Wednesday, April 29th, City Council welcomed His Excellency Kgalema Motlanthe (far left), the former President of South Africa. In 1977, Motlanthe was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for his involvement in the liberation struggle. After his release, he served as President from 2008-2009.

President Motlanthe traveled to Houston to raise awareness about the Liliesleaf Legacy Project, a national heritage site that seeks to preserve the memory of South Africa's liberation struggle alive.
Chapter 42 Outside 610 Loop
In May 2013, the City of Houston passed changes to Chapter 42 of the Code of Ordinances that pertains to subdivisions, developments, and platting. These changes allow for greater single-family home density outside the 610 loop.

The implementation of this ordinance was delayed to ensure that neighborhoods have adequate time to either: 1) revise deed restrictions, 2) apply for minimum lot sizes, or 3) apply for minimum setbacks.

May 24, 2015 is the date in which these Chapter 42 changes will go into affect. If your neighborhood has not already worked with the City of Houston on updating your neighborhoods deed restrictions, please click here.

 23rd Annual Gulfton Festival
