Sharpstown Apollos Need our Support!

I have always
believed that providing our youth with extra-curricular activities and after-school opportunities is essential in helping to instill real-world team-building skills and values in our children.

I would like to ask you to join me in helping our Sharpstown High School Junior Varsity and Varsity Soccer Teams. Both teams need new uniforms due to
a lack of supplies and strapped budgets.  Students currently have to switch out uniforms in between practices and games to share gear between the JV and Varsity teams.

Please join with me to help purchase jerseys, gear bags, practice balls, and warm-up suits for our youth. Donations can be made to: Sharpstown High School, c/o Boys Soccer Team, 7504 Bissonnet, Houston, TX 77074. Please contact the school at 713-771-7215 for more information.

Celebrating 50 Years of St. Francis De Sales

Council Member Laster had the honor of presenting a Mayoral Proclamation on April 12th, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the St. Francis de Sales School in Sharpstown. The event also marked the dedication of a new Rosary Garden and sports deck, honoring past teachers.

Despite the rainy weather, there was a great turnout to celebrate this school's amazing contribution to the community.  The St. Francis de Sales School began its first day of instructions on September 8th, 1964. It has successfully maintained its accreditations throughout its existence, and continues its work to maintain the highest academic standards.

City Approves Sidewalk Relief

On Wednesday, City Council passed an amendment regarding the repair of residential sidewalks. This new process will reduce costs and streamline the homeowner funded repair or replacement process. Permit fees will be waived, and homeowners will have access to competitive pricing options.

More information about this sidewalk repair program is forthcoming and will be distributed via PWE, CitizensNet, and the Department of Neighborhoods in the coming weeks. Make sure to sign up for these updates, as well as other City of Houston news, at the sites above!

Skatepark Construction Designs Coming Along

On April 8th, Council Member Laster met with the design team for the Gulfton Skatepark at Burnett Bayland Park. This meeting, held at Neighborhood Centers' Baker Ripley Campus, was the next step in the design process. The young men who initially presented the skatepark idea to the Council Member were also in attendance and have been deeply involved with each phase of the design work.

If you would like to learn more and donate to the skate park, please visit the Houston Parks Board
