Legislative Forum to Discuss State Issues
The Texas State Legislature is in session for only 140 days every two years. During that time, legislation is proposed and passed which affects all of us at a local, regional, and state level.
As you may know, one recently proposed bill would have consolidated the Greater Sharpstown and Gulfton Management Districts. I did not initiate or propose this state legislation, nor participate in the drafting of the bill. After reviewing the issue and hearing from my constituents, I have chosen to not support this legislation moving forward.
As the District City Council Member over both Sharpstown and Gulfton, I also shared my concerns with State Representative Gene Wu. It is my understanding that this bill will not be moving forward.
To date, over 3400 bills have been filed, many of which directly affect our community. Representative Gene Wu will be hosting a public forum to talk about the current 84th Legislative Session this Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at the Sharpstown Community Center (6600 Harbor Town Drive).
I am sure Representative Wu would like to see you at this meeting!
Thank You,
-Mike Laster, Council Member - District J
