Just What the Doctor Ordered . . .

Crisp Fall weather provided a perfect backdrop for this past Saturday's Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the new Texas Children' Hospital Center for Children and Women. I had the great pleasure of being able to help open this new 65,000 square foot facility. The Center is located in the Southwest Corporate Center, at 9700 Bissonnet, in the heart of the Westwood neighborhood. Many will fondly remember the building as being the past home of the Westwood Mall.

This new medical center is the second such facility operated by Texas Children's Hospital for the benefit of its Texas Children's Health Plan members. When founded in 1996, The Health Plan was the nation's first health maintenance organization created just for children. The Centers for Children and Women program was started by the Hospital in 2013, with the first such facility being located in the Greenspoint area. Take a moment to visit   www.jointhecenter.org to learn more about services being provided and to take a virtual tour of these beautiful facilities. The Center will be open 7 days a week.

I want to thank Texas Children's Hospital for making such a major investment in the lives of our District J residents.  Their presence provides vital health care services to our families, and will give so many of our kids a much needed boost in their childhood development.

I hope you will join me in saying "Welcome to the neighborhood!"

Happy Thanksgiving . . .

I and you District J staff extend our heartfelt wishes to you and your loved ones! Enjoy a joyous and happy Thanksgiving holiday and may your travels be safe and your days be filled with gratitude.

Blessings,

City Council Explores Core Services

With a possible multi-million budget

gap coming next year, City Council, working through the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Committee (BFA), has undertaken the task of defining what constitutes "core services" in the City of Houston. Core service sub-committee meetings are taking place on a regular basis, and will continue through January 2015.

These meetings will help City Council to determine  priorities and identify potential reductions for the FY2016 budget, which starts July 1, 2015. Please click here for past presentations and agendas from the BFA committee.

High Mast Lighting Along Southwest Frwy

Following upon the recent asphalt overlay on the Southwest Freeway, residents from the Braeburn Glen subdivision contacted their District J office about the lack of lighting along the freeway.

Did you know that the City of Houston maintains these high mast light fixtures? Your District J office, working through a standard 3-1-1 request and in collaboration with the Traffic Operations division of Public Works, has helped to repair much of this lighting in the past few weeks. In fact, most of the high mast lighting has been restored along the 59 corridor, not just in District J, but from the North Loop to Sugarland! The entire stretch will be completed soon.

As always, please utilize 3-1-1 as your first course of action for requesting City services. And let your District J office know!
