Inauguration Day for the City

 City Seal

As we usher in a new year, we also welcome the addition of some new faces to City Council. Inauguration Day for the City of Houston will be held on January 2, 2014 at the Wortham Center, at 9:30am. Afterwards, the Mayor will commence with the first Council Session of the year at City Hall around 11am.

There are 6 new Council Members-elect who will be beginning their terms on the 2nd. They include: Brenda Stardig for District A, Dwight Boykins for District D, Richard Nguyen for District F, and Robert Gallegos for District I. At Large Positions 2 and 3 will be filled by David Robinson and Michael Kubosh, respectively. Our office extends congratulations to each of these individuals, and we look forward to working with them in the coming year.

We sincerely thank each of their outgoing predecessors for their service to the citizens of the City of Houston.

Adopt a Friendly Face through BARC

While we hope you have had a wonderful holiday with friends and family, let's not forget about our furry friends who don't have a place to call home!

There are multiple BARC-sponsored pet adoptions occurring around the city during this time period. You can stop by the Galleria from 11am to 3pm this Saturday the 28th, to adopt. Pet adoptions will also be held on Sunday the 29th at Petco #1449 on Westheimer and Wilcrest from 1 to 5pm.

BARC will also be holding a Volunteer Training Orientation on December 28th at their headquarters on 3200 Carr St., beginning at 10am. These meetings occur periodically on the fourth Saturday of every month. Please contact Ian.Todd@houstontx.gov if you are interested in attending volunteer orientation or would like to learn more information about volunteering for BARC.

Are you Ready for Some Football? -

2013 Texas Bowl

The University of Minnesota and Syracuse University will square off in the 2013 Texas Bowl on Friday, Dec. 27 at 5pm. The game will be played at Reliant Stadium and will be aired on ESPN. The Syracuse Orange will fill the Big 12 position as an at-large bid representing the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Minnesota Golden Gophers will represent the Big Ten Conference.

The first Texas Bowl was held on December 28, 2006 and has quickly become a Houston tradition. With an overall mission "to create a celebration of the culture, heritage and football tradition in the Lone Star State," we can think of no better way to celebrate the holidays than by catching some football! Tickets can be purchased to the Texas Bowl by clicking on the link provided here.
