Nationwide Move 2015 exercise transports ammunition to Anniston Munitions Center

The U. S. Army Joint Munitions Command recently partnered with the U.S. Army Reserve 639th Transportation Company and the U.S. Army Reserve 850th Transportation Company, who are part of the 346th Transportation Battalion, in an exercise called Nationwide Move 2015, to move approximately 2,500 short tons of munitions from Blue Grass Army Depot to Anniston Munitions Center, during mid-July.
Nationwide Move 2015 units reported to the U.S. Army Reserve 103rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, based in Des Moines, Iowa, which served as the command and control unit. The exercise provided Reserve forces with transportation and logistics operations training, while also providing support to the JMC ammunition enterprise.

McCarthy vows to pass six-year highway bill

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who is looking to succeed outgoing Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), is vowing to pass a six-year extension of federal transportation.
"Well, fundamental, I'm going to change as Speaker. We're going to make sure we get the highway bill done," said McCarthy on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Tuesday, when asked how he would differ from the departing Boehner.

China invests in America's high-speed rail

XI JINPING, China's president (pictured left), is visiting America this week. He has brought plenty of baggage: the controversy surrounding the manipulation of China's struggling economy, alleged cyberattacks on American government and businesses, and aggressive construction in contested parts of the South China Sea that has infuriated American allies. One Chinese observer told the New York Times, "Xi is obsessed with strategic rivalry with the United States."
Logistics managers should prepare for surge in Global Trade Management demand

By the expansion of international trade and major new trade agreements, the worldwide market for Global Trade Management (GTM) will continue its strong growth over the forecast period, according to a new ARC Advisory Group study.
International Trade Visibility and Execution - one of two GTM categories defined by ARC - will see an expanded part of the market that wants more emphasis on functionality to understand air and ocean carrier schedules, tender to those carriers, and execute the loads.

MDOT Supports National Preparedness Month

To Mississippians, extreme weather is a fairly common occurrence. Whether it is tornadoes, hurricanes, winter weather or power outages, most Mississippians are impacted every year by some sort of weather event. The National Highway Institute (NHI) has named September as National Preparedness Month and aims to encourage everyone to make a plan and know what to do when an emergency strikes. In support of this, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to remind Mississippians of the importance of safety and preparedness on our roadways during hazardous weather.

In February 2014, the southern portion of our state was hit with several major winter storms. So far in 2015, Mississippi has been struck by three winter weather events and 22 confirmed tornadoes. While it is impossible to predict the severity of weather events, we can prepare in advance to be ready for whatever Mother Nature decides to throw at us.
