Macaulay Whitaker Wins the Heidel Leadership Award
This year's recipient of the the Mississippi Economic Development Council Ray and Jimmy Heidel Economic Development Leadership Award is Macaulay Whitaker who is Vice President Internal & External Affairs for the Golden Triangle Development LINK in Columbus, Mississippi.  The purpose of the award is to foster further development of promising Mississippi economic development practitioner leaders from the True South Basic Economic Development Course. The Ray Heidel Leadership Award was established in 1995 by the Mississippi Economic Development Council to honor the life and contributions to the profession by Ray Heidel.  In 1999 the name was changed to The Ray Jimmy and Heidel Economic Development Leadership Award to recognize Jimmy Heidel's contributions to the profession on both the local and statewide levels. The winner gets a a full tuition scholarship for one year to either the Economic Development Institute or the Community Development Institute.  
ADP Hires Recent USM Graduate
Alex Doleac recently accepted a Project manager position with the Area Development Partnership of the Greater Hattiesburg Area. Alex was born and raised in Hattiesburg, MS, where he graduated with a Bachelors of Interdisciplinary Studies from The University of Southern Mississippi in August 2014. After graduating from his undergraduate studies, Alex entered the Economic Development masters program at Southern Miss in the Fall of 2014 to pursue his Masters of Science in Economic Development and Tourism. In addition to pursuing a graduate degree, Alex was also able to finish out his NCAA eligibility on the USM Men's Tennis Team during his undergraduate and graduate studies, finishing his final season in May 2015. 

Alex completed his masters coursework over the summer while working in Pensacola, FL as an intern with Florida West Economic Development Alliance before graduating from the program in August 2015. 
Mark Your Calendars for 2016 True South September 19-22, 2016
Fifty-five students from across the Southeast completed this year's IEDC Accredited True South Basic Economic Development Course that covers the core building blocks for any economic development organization.  This year's course included high profile economic development speakers such as Jay Moon, Executive Director of the MS Manufacturers Association, David Rumbarger, President  & CEO of the Community Development Foundation, Brent Christensen, President & CEO of the Greensboro Partnership, Scott Martinez, Presidentof the North Louisiana Economic Partnership, Gray Swoope, President & CEO of VisionFirst Advisors, LLC, and Joe Max Higgins, CEO of the Golden Triangle Development LINK. 
 
The course also included "The Game" economic development simulation exercise, which is a hallmark of this program.
